Title: Police Specials
Post by: SteveW on February 21, 2023, 06:51:38 PM
Anyone know if there are any performance differences on the Honda Police bikes?

Reason I ask is I’ve just picked up a spare engine for my 650, the engine number starts RG01 instead of the usual RC03. A bit of searching on the internet shows it’s a Police engine.

Wondering why Honda would use a different engine code if the Police engines were the same as the standard ones. The engine looks identical to my standard one.

As far as I’m aware, all police models left the factory in standard spec / tune. Certainly the CB750P models..

I bought several NOS camshafts for the CB350P and they were the same spec.  as the standard K0 part but didn't have the tacho drive gear pressed into them as the police bike didn't have a rev counter. So there is one difference. Also some police models had up-rated alternators to power the extra electrics.

Not a bike but similar theme - the Panda car based on the Moggie 1000 was a standard engine but it had servo assisted drum brakes all round with  heavy duty alternator so the fixed VHF radios did not flatten the battery. The police spec Vauxhall Ventora 3.0 l car was standard except all the interior was from a basic Victor so ours had rubber mats as standard - no carpets.
