What a revelation they must have been back then.
Compared to the opposition. Bantams, Cubs, Plovers etc.
I must dig out my Sloper this season.
Its great little thing to ride, till it hits a bump mid bend.
Then all hell breaks loose! Serious lack of rebound damping.
The 6v electrics are useless. But all in all. A great little bike.

Maybe you should get one.
The Cb/CD 175 is without doubt amongst the best bikes
Honda have made. Robust simplicity with big bike feel.
Great fun, on the right roads. Far superior to the Cb250.

Funny you should say that. I know of a very tidy CD175 sitting in someone's shed following the passing of his father who restored it. Maybe I should offer it a new home, it hasn't been touched by anyone for three years.

Certainly worth a try, and it's fairly simple to convert to 12v electrics, replace coil, flasher unit, all bulbs and battery. The battery determines the charging voltage on them, we converted many over years ago with no problems, brighter lights, easier and cheaper to source bulbs, and no one need know looking at it.

When I restored mine nearly 10 years ago nobody was interested in doing them, now they seem really popular. Or is it that they are one of the few bikes that are still fairly readily available and relatively simple to do and at the end you have a pleasant useable little bike and everybody either had one or a family member had one at some time.

I think the reason people didn't do them a few years back was the fact parts were no cheaper than for a bigger bike, but they figured a bigger bike would sell for a higher price when it was done.

Original pipe/silencer = Rocking Horse Poo though and nobody makes replacements for the sloper model

When I was in the Triumph Owners Club, I knew a guy called Cliff who was an ex racer. By the simple tactic of not slowing down for corners, he could ride rings around much bigger bikes on his CD175.
Seeing him swoop around my 750 and go off in hot persuit of an unsuspecting Laverda Jota was something I’ll never forget :)
