Title: gear linkage
Post by: boilermaker1 on December 16, 2014, 03:29:14 PM
Hello, some help needed again.
I want to get my 400f gear linkage rechomed.
So it looks like the one in the photo.
I imagine I need to take it apart to get this done.
How do I take it apart??

Thanks

It is a balljoint, so you will need a spliter. I did one some years ago and made a mess of it.

The cups in those joints are nylon I think.
I used a slim open ended spanner (or two?) to separate the joints before re-assembing a nice NOS foot lever.
Grease well before and after !

You don't need to split the joins, chromer did mine still linked up and it is perfect, past experience told me they are never the same after splitting and putting back together.

Like the front and rear brake levers, the original Honda finish on these bits was as cast or forged, with a hint of chrome for a bit of protection and decoration.

R&S Electroplating did a good job of mine with me taking it apart.

R&S did mine but I didn't split the joints, I just unscrewed the link adjuster bar.
