Look at them, are the corks disintegrating? How thick are they? Are they still in spec?. Don't replace them just because you think you should, they ain't exactly cheap BUT they are fairly easy to change even with the engine in the frame so it's not a disaster if they do start to slip.

As I said, IF you do need some I have a bucket full of them. Also have pressure plates, measure them as well.

Clutch plates on these bikes seem to last for ages, mine are still in after over 160K and my other bike has the original plates with over 250K on them.

Look for any shop on the route back with a red sign over it, you'd have thought it was the Post Office due to inebriation. It will still be sat on the counter.

I wish. TBH I'm so low at the moment with personal problems I'm seriously considering just packing it all away until I'm in the mood again. Just doing polishing to keep my mind occupied.

TBH they do tend to leak for a couple of reasons, the soft washer is replaced by another type because they didn't know what it was there for or the threads were stripped out by either overtightening OR the thread hole was full of oil when they tried to insert the bolt, hydraulic pressure caused by this causes the bolt to try and lock up, you keep on trying to tighten and it strips the threads right out of the head. Make sure the hole is empty before fitting the bolt, oh and in case you didn't know Roo the brackets hanging off that bolt are handed, stamped left and right. The hole doesn't line up if you fit them wrong.

I'll dig some out and send them down Roo. No charge. I'll send 3 alloy ones and 10 copper, there is an alloy one on the camchain tensioner upper bolt IIRC so one for there as well. Just need to find them now. Many, many boxes of parts lying about.

I used Middletons 17mm headed bolt in stainless many moons ago and they were perfect. All he's done is reduce the head size so it matches OE specs.

I've now bought new 14mm headed 10mm bolts to replace all those I bought 40 odd years ago. The brake calipers ones were another I replaced, the 17mm head made them tricky to get a socket on.

You're thinking of the 500 Bryan, has plastic top hats on the throttle lifter arm.

Kept thinking of what Matt was referring to but seeing the pic has refreshed my memory. I'd go with plastic ones Matt, they are only dust seals after all.

Just started a 550 clutch cover tonight Roo. Went to the box they are all in and just picked one at random, damn it's BAD, really really really bad. Massive amounts of corrosion. Just spend 2 3/4 hours tidying it up a little, did I mention it's bad. Got about 1/3rd done but many many more hours to go on it yet. I've taken some before pics and I'll take some more as it progresses, don't hold your breath, this will be a whenever I feel like it project. Actuating arm is in nice condition though.

I'm like Bryan, the underneath washer is definitely a soft alloy one, I tend to fit a copper one under the head of the bolt.

I've got both kinds if you need any Roo. I also fit the same type copper washer under every bolt with a number 12 washer under it as well.

2 links touching, that's almost new Ted. A new one won't touch anywhere until you press down on the centre, at a pinch you could re-use that. I'd still replace the primary damper rubbers though unless they feel nice.

It's also less than £50 for the Kawasaki one and around £126 in the UK for the Honda one.

If you want to retain the original look and use a 10mm bolt with a metric fine thread but still keep the 14mm head that's hard to find, however my favourite supplier of stainless bolts does just that. I'd get 10 x 35 and if needed trim them down.

Just in case you didn't know, a set bolt (which he sells a lot of) are usually 30mm and under and are threaded full length. You don't want a set bolt in that location.

His bolts may be more expensive than some but the heads are polished and have no unsightly writing on. They are also top quality.
