Title: Brake Fluid
Post by: florence on April 23, 2021, 01:59:10 PM
I forgot the world moves on and changes.  I bought some brake fluid, DOT 4, and have only now noticed it is synthetic.  Will this work?  I have read that it is more compressible than Glycol based brake fluid and may cause a loss of feel which for anyone familiar with riding these bikes will know is not an area where there is room for negotiation  :)

I thought that before I rebuild my brake this weekend I would find out if anyone here has used it as I am miles away from any shops
?

Dot 5 silicone fluid works fine, I can't see any reason Dot 4 won't be okay. Dot 5 is great as it doesn't absorb water like Dot 3, and it doesn't harm paint if you splash the tank or frame.

Have I understood that you can replace the brake fluid by DOT 5.1 without having to clean the reservoir and lines a 100%?
