Title: Starter problems
Post by: Mike on a bike on December 19, 2015, 09:36:30 PM
I tried to start the bike today, and it sounds like the starter motor is failing to engage properly, it spins freely and sounds like a bag of spanners, only engaging once in 10 attempts. Anyone in the know who can point me in the right direction on how to fix this problem.

Yep, sounds like the clutch rollers/springs in the starter mechanism. Thankfully an easily available part, and easy to fit on a 750, it's on the back of the generator rotor, so not engine out or splitting the crankcases job.

Also make sure that the screws holding the starter clutch to the rotor are tight and that the ground round part of the big gear does not look like a muti sided threpenny bit
