Saying that Johnny, I had some mirror polished fork sliders on my 1300, very hard to do as the surface was dimpled as standard and all that had to be sanded off. They were really nice but I liked the satin black look better for the 1300 so I sold them for a healthy profit. I got a spare set of sliders powder coated in satin black (after de-dimpling them) and they've not chipped at all and they've been on there for a good few years now. I'd either get them powder coated silver or polished them, paint will chip far to easily IMO especially where they are located.

I agree with Paul, electric was a stop gap and not thought out, a knew jerk reaction. Everyone who bought an electric car was conned, when hydrogen comes out you won't be able to give them away, plus you can guarantee the Government will then start to tax electric because of the environmental issues they cause, disposal will be a nightmare. Hydrogen is the answer, it's abundant, a never ending source of power and the existing engine technology can be readily converted to use Hydrogen, it's just getting the safety factor solved which is delaying it's rollout.

Also factor in that the Government intends to phase out cheap night rate electricity and suddenly that electric vehicle isn't so cheap anymore.

I think I may have bought the last NOS return spring last year Roo, found it in the states, I’m not sure if I bought 2 to reduce the postage costs, trouble is I won’t be using any of them as I broke a bank of carbs and the spring or springs are now surplus, cost me a lot as well, about £25 or so iirc

For some unknown reason Honda fitted smaller screws than they should have, a lot of thread is left unused, most likely that’s why you tend to strip them out. I always clean the threads up and fit the correct length screws when I’m doing carbs, iirc the top caps screws are 16mm when they should be 20mm as an example.

Drove a Scania 17 tonner for a while that had 9th and 10th gear changed round. 9th went back and 10th went forward when all the rest were in the standard position. Caught me out for ages.

I've got a Cibie Z beam in my 500 Ted, along with a good LED bulb, the beam pattern is as good as identical with the halogen, so if the present reflector is ok try a decent LED bulb first. There is a thread about it on the site with pics. http://www.sohc.co.uk/index.php/topic,25595.msg234557.html#msg234557

Always had a soft spot for the CB900F, my fav was the F2 I think, the one with the reversed gold comstars. Had a Police Interceptor car chase me on one, Lotus Sunbeam, they were rather miffed when I left them for dead, when they did catch me later they threw me against a wall (they only caught me because I was wearing my Honda overalls and they figured out where I must work) Got my hat nailed on for that little chase but TBH it wasn't my fault, I was doing 30 in a 30 zone and they were so close behind me I could hear their tappets knocking, I sped up then slowed down again when they were well behind, sure enough, I could hear tappets again, they were approx 3 inches off the back of the bike when I looked back, car was completely unmarked so I thought I was in danger, they were driving with the white line going between driver and passenger, I still remember thinking "Sod this, I'm outa here". They were very very annoyed with me as I'm sure they thought nothing could lose them.

CB500/550 / Re: Top yoke fitting - correct sequence on a 500?
« on: December 09, 2022, 10:25:04 AM »
Top nut first Ted, if you tighten the pinch bolt up first you can cause undue stress on the threads of the yoke as you try to tighten the top nut after. Fork tubes in place so it stops the yoke from spinning, bottom pinch bolts tight but not top ones, so as the top nut on the yoke is tightened down the yoke can slide down the tubes if it wants to. Then align if needed before tightening the 3 pinch bolts.

I presume that’s the info you were after.

There's a coloured one on this link.

Not checked it yet, as it's the USA version of our site it may be for the US version.
