Title: CB550K1 petrol tank versus F1/F2/K3/K4 tank
Post by: Ashdowner on September 05, 2017, 12:35:28 PM
My imported CB550K1 came with a tank that's from either a K3/K4/F1/F2 (the one with the flap as opposed to the K1 tank which has a protruding cap). Is the K1 tank a different size from the other(s)? It seems that when I push the seat down in place it fits far more snugly over the tank than it should, so much so that it's started to rub the paint finish off the tank. If they are different sizes then I need to do a swap.

Yours, the K1 as well as the K and the K2, is supposed to have the tank with the protruding cap. F models and the K3-4 had the flap.

Oddjob maybe that's the answer. The tank I have is candy blue, which is a colour for F1 tanks but not K tanks. Are you sure that the F and K tanks are different lengths? If it is correct then it's likely that I have a F tank. Bottom line is I still need to find a K0 or K1 tank with the raised petrol filler.

The F and K model tanks are slightly different, I seem to recall the F is longer which then means the seat is shorter or vice versa. The result is fitting a K seat to an F tank means they rub and the seat either doesn't shut properly or it does but deforms around the tank. I presume fitting a K tank to F seat would mean a gap, might be the other way round as it's 30 years since I found this but it's a matter of matching correct seat to correct tank.

Oddjob, we have already been through this one >>> http://www.sohc.co.uk/index.php/topic,6307.msg33489.html#msg33489

Oddjob I'm surprised you say there's more cap than flap tanks available cos that's not what I'm finding and I've even got 2 spare flap tanks myself.

Only got 1 tank left now. I should have a blue 550f2 one somewhere but buggered if I can find it

I am looking for one of those blue F2 tanks and a set of ears, if you come across any parts for a UK F2 let me know.
