Does anyone have a bottom fork yolk for a CB500 K1 that they are willing to part with? I took my 500 for MOT today and the tester noticed that one of the lock stops is bent on the lower yolk.
He has passed the bike anyway (it is the same dealership that I have used every time since buying the bike in 2003) but advised that it is replaced. I have checked on the DS and CMSNL sites, however neither has this part.
I believe that this problem must have been there since before I bought the bike, as nothing has happened to it whilst I have owned it. It is only noticeable because the handlebars are closer to the tank on a full right - hand lock than on a full left - hand lock. A check of the lock stops then shows that the left side is slightly bent back, whereas the right side is straight.
I have been told that the dangers of heating it up and trying to straighten it are too great to make the exercise worthwhile, as it is cast and likely to break.
Many thanks in advance for any help that is available.

This is common on all old bikes. You can just get it welded ;)
-
I agree with Trig.....get it welded........a good Welder will have no problem with it and you can grind it back to the profile you want quite easily.....just measure it up and determine the finished profile before you strip the Yoke/ forks etc.
-
Many thanks for the advice, I will wait until the riding season has ended and then take it to our aero engineer, who is a CAA approved welder and seems to be able to weld almost anything.
-
The reason its bent is that somebody at some time has fallen off and the handlebars have been pushed round bending the lug, carefull if you try to straighten it as they usually break off but teh bit cn be easily welded back on---it aint aero science
-
If you nip along to your nearest space station, they can knock this job out in a couple of minutes and can do it on the bike ;D ;D
-
Many thanks for all of the advice, it is just easy for me to ask the aero engineer to weld it as he visits our hangar a couple of times a week and I am often around there anyway.

I've got a steering stem just restored with POR15, but no steering lock or capacity for one. It's on my 500.
If you want it I'll post just pay for the postage.
-
Mick, that's extremely kind of you. Please let me know how much to send and I will do so, either with a cheque or via Pay Pal if you prefer (my daughter has an account, I although I have never opened one). I am in Norfolk, so UK mainland postal or courier rates will apply, whatever they happen to be.
I'm not concerned about the lack of a steering lock, I always carry a "U" lock that fits through the rear wheel and around a shock absorber leg.

Are you aware that MickB is in Australia ? This is why it is important to list your location ;)
-
Trigger i believe if you click on my name it shows where I live.
Flatfour I'll find out the cost to post and let you know, try looking in "parts for sale" and eBay and compare.

On the USA site it does Mick but, not on this one mate ;)
-
Mick you have to manually enter your location on your profile page
-
Both sites are the same - Glenn chooses not to show location on the post sidebar though (I don't know why)

Thanks Mick. I've tried far and wide here without success, so I would still like it if it is convenient for you. I will arrange a PayPal transfer via my daughter when we know the cost and practicalities.
-
Flats I'll be taking out the steering stem today/ tomorrow and then I'll get a cost on the postage.
Still keep looking on eBay etc.
-
Mick, much appreciated.
-
Flatfour I've got the stem out and I'll find out tomorrow re the postage cost back to the old dart.
-
Mick, many thanks.

FF I haven't forgotten, just been too busy with my 500, it's finished.

I hope it's not holding you up too much, maybe some other parts can be done while waiting for the stem.

Very nice bike indeed Mick. 8)

Mick it's fine, there's no hurry. The bike is on the road for the next year with a fresh MOT (annual safety test) but the tester has pointed the damage to the lower yoke out to me as something to be aware of, so I would like to replace it when I am able.
-
Flat four I feel bad a week has turned into a month.
It doesn't have a steering lock.
Do you still want the yoke?

I'll get the postage cost tomorrow.

Not particularly good condition but you are welcome to it for the price of the postage.
