Title: how to approach DVLA
Post by: Johnwebley on May 03, 2016, 05:31:15 PM
I am tempted to try and rebuild this little toy,

I have always loved a little 2 stroke twin, and would love to get this back on the road,

problem is lack of documents, will the DLVA accept frame, engine number and receipt from the seller?
I don't mind an age related plate,but don't want a Q plate,

will the DVLA play,or is it best to forget it?

 I think I need a V62 and a V890 SORN form,
will I need to insure it while its in the garage?
obviously an MOT is out of the question,so what happens next ?

Without an original reg number and an HPI check I would walk away but if you insist a dating letter when you get that far should be OK. Insurance not required if off road and how can you sorn it without a reg?

Run a mile John, first it is well over priced for some spare. That will never be back on the road unless it is a Q plate or you find a V5 for it.

Wouldnt bother either. It will cost far more to make nice than it would to buy one already done. It will also have had any good bits robbed off it and replaced with crap from his other bike.

thank you all for your help and advice,

I tend to agree,it does seem to be a lot of trouble, and the "wonderful" DVLA is/was the straw that broke the camels whatever !!

one thing I did do was ask for engine and frame numbers, contacted my local plod ,hope they would have a national data base
of stolen bikes, guess what,no chance,I got a friendly phone call asking if I was buying locally,I said no,from Norfolk, she said
email Norfolf plod and ask them if it was stolen in their area!!!   as if  you couldn't nick it in london, and strip it in Norfolk !!!

I asked her to send me a confirmation email for my records !!!

when I received the email, she said she had forwarded  my enquiry to Norfolk plod !!

 amazing !!

  well,guess I carry on looking

 cheers and thanks
