ok,I know the weather is c**p,
BUT, now is the time to plan for long warm summer evenings,
check these links,
http://www.bikersnite.com/pub-list.php
starting middle of april,
and if you enjoy Welsh roads and scenary,
http://clivemcc.co.uk/
this is 7th May,and a day out in fresh air
pics will be appreciated
-
I played a gig at the Drum and Monkey many many years ago. I think it was a MAG rally, I remember being paid in beer.
-
Thanks for posting the Bikers Nite events. It's a long way from home but I should be able to manage one or two. I'm up that way most days in the van (just got back from Bourton in the Water) so I may not want to do the trip twice in one day.
-
the first is quite close,
its the airport,
others near Tewkesbury, and between Ross and Glos,
hope to see you at some,
I really fancy doing the Welsh Rally thing,Welshpool is only 60 miles away,so as long as
the weather is ok,will be a fun day on the good welsh roads,
-
I went to that airport trying to have a look at the jet age museum but it was closed. I'll keep trying though
-
any one live in the Welshpool region??
and want to do the Welsh Rally ?
may 7th,
I quite fancy it,wonderful roads,could be fun,
http://clivemcc.co.uk/
-
Out and about in India. No SOHC's but stayed brand loyal with Honda Active. Great little scooter for popping around the villages and beaches (minding the cows walking I the roads though!!!). Plenty of Enfields but some roads not good in places and bits seem to fall off them quite easily

keep warm !!
and take care,both of you,
I had my first decent run today,80 mile round trip,Hereford-Hay-on-Wye to Brecon and Abergavenny to Hereford loops,
not to busy, snow still on the Brecon Beacons,
can't wait for warmer weather
PS,I fancy the Welsh National Rally, May 7th
starts near Welshpool, anyone want to join me ??

today is Good Friday,after a lovely 100 mile ride-out,its a GREAT friday,
hereford start,to Hay,to Builth Wells.to Rhyader, the main A44 to the coast was closed by an accident,so back towards Kington, then
home to Hereford ,
nice and sunny,mainly light traffic,very enjoyable !!!
guessing this is the best day of the easter weekend, hope you all find time to get on the bike(s)
-
Sounds like you had a lovely ride out John. Beautiful day here also but, unfortunately the Jungle, sorry, the garden needed me so no bike riding today. I had a ride out on Thursday on the only bike we have which is not SORN'd at present, a CD250u, great fun although a bit chilly, especially after India ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Went out for a blast today, only 56 miles, along the coast road to Bridgend. Really enjoyed opening the tap on the old girl, overtaking 25 cars and a tractor in one hit. Not something I can get up to in the van. Back home for breakfast with my spirit recharged. Brilliant.
-
Ha - the joy's of spring.
As my Son In Law recently pointed out to me........'There's plenty of time to sleep when your'e dead'.
Very true.
-
Yup, lovely Good Friday, ready for Bad Saturday. I took out the pedal bike, the 400 and the 750 in that order.
Looking forward to similar days to come, albeit with less cold weather gear on.
Cheers all and enjoy,
D.
-
just back from a ride out,
about 55 miles, mixture of fast open road and twisty hilly B roads,
http://www.realrider.com/discover
check the route on here,
the wonders of moderm phones !!!
-
How many watering holes and fish and chip shops did you stop off at today John? ;D ;D ;D ;D

Been out for a great ride around suffolk just over 100 miles.Loved every second.Stopped 1 mile from home to fill up and the bike refused to start. No matter how much I pushed the starter or Kicked it I couldn't get any oil pessure.
I can tell you a mile is a long way to push a fully fueled 750. It was f**king heavy. To make thinks worse I dropped it when I got home and it's even heavier when its on its side.On the plus side I haven't done much damage and have oil pressure back now ???
Mick
-
Gave you a good work out did it mick
Have you got it running now?

Mick
God only knows how you managed to pick that up Mick, your no bigger than a shrimp ;D ;D ;D. I have trouble pushing CB750's from one side of the workshop to the other. As for getting them on the centre stand, forget it, mind you I struggle even doing that with the 550/4, the 500/4 and the 400/4 but, I'm told I don't have the right technique ::) ::). Hope your OK
-
The bike seems to be fine I only damaged the rear foot rest hanger and the end of the throttle grip it now starts easy and the oil pressure is back ???
Shrimp I take offence to that ;) just because I'm stilll wheezing. You better stick to the 250u Julie. When it went over I roped the neighbour into taking most of the weight ;D the only casualty was me with a squashed finger.
-
Are you sure you took a Honda out for a spin ? I thought only British crap let you down, and Italian ;D ;D
-
Deffo the Honda as it seems to have fixed its self
My Guzzi has been good I covered a massive 1000 miles last year.
-

Time for a full rebuild then
-
Maybe you should be looking for a slight smaller / lighter bike mick? Maybe something like a CB550? ;-) ha ha
-
Give me the moto gutless and £1000 and you can have my chicken chaser, totally reliable, run forever, cheap for consumables, and even Julie would find it easy to pick up!

I know I'm on borrowed time its covered 5000 miles in the last 8 years :o
-
And how much has it cost you in repairs for the time you've had it? £1 per mile, or more!
-

Have you got one by any chance James I am thinking of getting one for the right price ;)
-
Quite possibly mick. You know where I am...ring me and I'll cut you a special deal..:-)
-
And how much has it cost you in repairs for the time you've had it? £1 per mile, or more!
Only about £250 in the last 1000 miles
-
My good lady is watching a programme on all4 at the moment that sums you up, "one born every minute"

;D ;D ;D ;D Yes Hairy, I'm sure I would be OK with that
-

I don't know how to respond to that coming from someone that rides a granny shopper ;D ;D ;D
-
I have no choice sadly, blame arrogant consultants in the N.H.S. for leaving me in a state where riding my 750F1 is a physical impossibility
-
Mick you didn't tell us what was wrong with the 750? We're all curious to know :)
I let go my VFR750 once. I can't pick that up on my own either :( Moreover, I think the CB750 weighs about the same so I understand ::)
-
I havn't a clue what was wrong with it I have since run it up to temprature and all seems OK apart from a slipping clutch now when I give it the beans.
-

Bugger forgot about that 2 wheels are better than no wheels
-
Very true, I Can't physically sit down, so driving a car is out of the question too! Anyway, I think we've hijacked this thread enough for today!
-

I learnt to fly at Gloucester (Staverton) airport as it was then called in 1972, so the pictures bring back some good memories. My mother still lives in Longhope (in a bungalow that we once owned) and I visit as often as possible, so still have a connection with that part of the world.
Thanks for posting.

Out and about in Lincolnshire today. Just under 80 miles on the little CB250u. Beautiful sunny day, warm enough and a very nice pub lunch too. As you can see John (Webley) Lincolnshire is not all flat, this pic was taken about 5 miles from home.

great to see you aswell,
perfect evening, warm and dry,the venue was packed !!!
-
the Honda and I had a dayout yesterday,
a ride around North Wales, total mileage 452,actual Rally mileage only 321,
left home at 7.45,got home 22.20, Knackered !!!
a brief precis of the Welsh National Rally,
its basically a navigation/treasure hunt style rally,various awards,and targets,the Platinum is 4 manned controls,and 15 unmanned,
and Gold is 3 Manned and 12 unmanned, you choose your route and target,
as a novice I only choose the Gold ,with the added option of entering pre 1975 classic bike award,
at each manned control, there are 10 general knowledge questions, score to be added to the total, but each of the unmanned controls
have to be visited, and relevant questions are supplied to answer, typically,at one village,in the center is a BT call box, what is the telephone number? or next to a local pub is a bus stop, what is the route number?
these questions are only issued when you arrive at the start,
basically I started at Castle Caereinion,nr Welshpool, and via Langollen, the Horseshoe pass and 4 unmanned checks I got to
my first manned check,at Woods Motorcycles,Abergele,so far it was going well,my mileage calculations were along way out,did nearly
40 more than I guesstimated !!!
down towards roads that I know well,Betws-y-Coed and Blaenau Ffestiniog to Beddgelert and via 5 more unmanned checks to
Dinis Dinlle,or Caenarfon airport,
know south to Dollgellau, and last manned check at Fairbourne Chippy !!the distance caught me out,as also the lack of filling
stations,finally covered 147 miles between fill ups,when I did,it took 13 1/4 litres !!! PHEW !!
last 3 unmanned went ok,buat at the last near Newtown,a torrential thunderstorm started,it was around 7pm,black as night,
bright lightning, and sleet,it was cold and wet !!!, so much so,the discs were lagging, even keeping the brakes on fails to dry them,
once I got on the main roads,at over 50 they tended to spin dry,and the brakes worked !!luckily the puddles were easy to miss,
back to the Castle aereinion for handing in the paperwork, and cuppa and very nice curry and chips, that was welcome, and tasty,
a few pics,from the start,and onwards
-
few more pics
also some of the paperwork,
PS ,I got a GOLD award at first attempt, waiting to hear how I did for the top spot in the Pre 1975 bike class
-
Looked like great fun, probably a full days work at some point to get the bike back to it's usual shiny self!
-
Great pics John but to much paperwork for me.I ride the bike to get out of doing it.
Mick
-
Looked like a nice day to John bet you enjoyed.
Billy
-
the weather is rubbish around here today,so I am giving the Biker nite a miss,
if any of you go,post some pics
-
Looked like great fun, probably a full days work at some point to get the bike back to it's usual shiny self!
Perhaps a good steam clean would help. :D

and the bike as well ???

Had a little ride out on the F2 yesterday in the lovely sunshine.Went via Quinemore to Devils Bridge, up the A6 to Clapham, then over the highest road in Lancashire to Gisburn Reservoir.
[attach=1]
[attach=2]
[attach=3]
[attach=4]
Then back through Slaidburn, Calder Vale, Trough of Bowland, and Over Wyre to home. 130 lovely miles without much traffic.
The bike is running superb, I appear to have got the best out of these crap PD carbs at last. Although the tickover is still all over the place, but I have now learned to ride around that problem.
All in all a very nice day out.
-
out at the Cotswold biker nite ,this time as Stroud
didn't see any sohc's
a few oldies
-
Like the little green yamaha ;)
-
Rode to work Tuesday on the 550, runs well and very smooth.
-
I went to a new bike night in my area back on the 16th of may I've only just had time to get the photos on here ;) cheers Mick.

Went to Boston Bike Night yesterday evening. It's one of the largest bike gatherings in the UK. There are some very big bike clubs around this way and at weekends there are more bikes on the road in Lincolnshire than cars and I think most of the bikes were in Boston yesterday evening !!. Probably 6000 - 8000 bikes there with trade stands, food, bands etc. Not many Classic Honda's there but some nice old Brit bikes.
When I sort out my phone, I will post some pics ;D ;D ;D
-
out today, enjoying the sun, riding through our local "flat lands"
-
The VMCC are doing a trip to Bristol on Sunday to visit the SSGB (the ship, not the Len Deighton book). We'll probably be there around noon, and I'm sure they'll welcome any non members that show up. I'll post pics when I get back.

That was a great day out. Over 20 bikes bikes turned up - of interest to us lot; a 550F, a 500 and my 400 plus various assorted jap bikes, a Hinckley Triumph, Norton Dominator, some Velocettes, Morinis and a couple of Lomax 3 wheeler kit cars.

great pics Mike,
nice bikes, but that ship is awesome thing,

Wow, they are impressive John. I bet they cost more than some of the bikes I bought in my long lost past ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
Nah, they're the same inexpensive ones that I've got. They do the job though.
-
Shows what I know then ;D ;D ;D If they were less than 20 quid, they were still more than I paid for a bike in 1981 ;D ;D ;D
-
Wow, they are impressive John. I bet they cost more than some of the bikes I bought in my long lost past ;D ;D ;D ;D
possibly,they cost £39 from MandP ,
my first bike cost me £3,my second was a Fanny B,and cost me a tenner
-
Only £3 john, my first bike was a KH250 that cost me £25 ;D
-
I went to the Donington Park Festival of Classics on Saturday and, with the exception of the usual nonsense of being turned away at the gate that led directly to the bike park and re - routed via the main entrance over gravel and mud, it was very good.
The standard and number of classic machines (mostly Japanese) on display was excellent (they claimed over 400) as was the display of classic race bikes (some 150, including an original Honda 250 six).
Equally interesting was the bike park, where many more classics were parked. Although there was a full day's racing as well, my brother and I became so absorbed with the displays that we only saw the one race and a parade!

Those Candy Antares Red 400fours get everywhere.
Don't they just......as common as muck ;D ;D ;D
-
Maybe I did the right thing by getting a Parakeet Yellow one then. :) :)
-
Possibly Chris. My 1st 400/4 that I bought used in 1982 was Parakeet Yellow, just an 'F' model with the rear pegs on the swinging arm and that was what I was really looking for when I bought the current Antares red one. Never mind, I'm a woman, I'm allowed to change my mind 😃😃😃😃
-
I was really looking for an Antares Red one when I found this one, as that was the colour I wanted back in the late 70s but never got a 400!
But I've grown to like it now and am not sure I'd change it.
-
I don't blame you Chris. I am also very happy with my Antares Red one, matches my nail varnish at times 😃😃😃
-
Chris and Julie; You could swap bikes...and nail varnish
-
I'm not parting with the nail varnish Mike. It is a perfect match for a touch up on the tank when needed ,😃😃😃
-
Maybe I need some advice as to what colour I should wear .... No, don't bother, I'll stick with the 'au naturel' look for my fingers (and toes) :)

Boston bike night
-
I have been trying to post the above pics since July 8th, I needed a bit of help !!!. The pics probably only show about 50% of the entire meet.
-
My 750F1 was in yellow when I bought it. Was constantly hassled by wasps when working on it in summer, and there were always dead flies under the filler cap when I put petrol in. Grew to hate the yellow so much, I was well chuffed when it got knocked over outside the local shop, the bus company's insurers wanted it sorted quickly, but there were no yellow tanks in the U.K. so they asked if I would mind if the dealer fitted a candy Antares red tank and tailpiece. What a result, was going to get it sprayed red anyway!

I would love to get over to Boston for the bike meet, but its just to far,
the local ones happen weeklyon wednesday through the summer, and raise thousands for the Midlands Air Ambulance,
I am happy to support a worthy cause,
-
Trigger and IT do not go together usually John but, he sorted it for me this time !!!. Boston Bike Night is not too far for you, if you come and stay with us it's only 10 miles away. There are sooooooo many bikes on the roads over this way, more bikes than cars on a good day but, never more bikes than tractors ;D ;D ;D.
-
I should have added John that I rode 147 miles from Dungeness to the New Forest just to meet you, so it's your turn next year ;D ;D ;D

on a hot summers day,the Honda went to the seaside, the Lakeside, and to a narrow gauge rail station,
starting form Hereford ,to a little village called Borth, about 10 miles north of Aberystyth, then via Macynileth,
then to picturesque Bala Lake, and via another lake to Narrow gauge railway at Porthmadoc,
beautiful roads, the bike ran well, lots of sun,and smiles
-
a quick PS,
you may have noticed there was no mention of the return home,
well its like this,
between Dolgethley and Newtown, just south of Malwld,I picked up a nail in the rear tyre,
the tyre deflated over about 400yds,first a gentle wobble, them a full left lock slide/turn,
I still don't know how I stayed upright, and managed to stop safely ,
but it does make the heart beat a little quicker,
surprise ,surprise,I had full phone coverage, and after a 23 minute call to my insurance, the recovery started,a very nice
guy with a lovely Honda 4 x 4 and trailer collected me and brought me home,on the way back, near Welshpool the Police
help up the traffic for 2 trucks carring wind turbine blades, horizonally not vertically, these new ones are MASSIVE,
check the pic,
-
Good to know it ended well John
I hate punctures in tubed tyres they can turn scary within seconds.
Tyres have moved on leaps and bounds thank good I rode my triumph with a flat 40 miles in a thunder storm once you couldn't do that with a tube

Another summer of riding ended today as I SORN'd Hettie ready for winter storage. Did about 2.5k investigating my new home county of Lincolnshire and and the surrounding areas.Even rode her over the Humber Bridge to Hull to see Ash.Fantastic biking roads around here. No major problems, ran like a dream. Only slight issue was when I was going into a corner a bit too fast, went to change gear and the circlip on the gearchange lever had come off and the lever was dangling :o :o :o Never mind, managed to get back home without changing gear with no harm done. SORN'd the Thundercat as well so will be using the Honda CD25Ou and the car for the winter. Looking forward to next year already :) :) :)

agrees with Julie, its still warm(ish) and as long as its dry I shall continue to ride, not much point in SORNing,as its Historic anyway,
and I am already planning for next year,
I fully intend to get to the far east,or close to David Silvers, and explore "bomber" country as Lincolnshire was once called,
and hopefull the sohc clan can have another meeting,on till the end of august when I have booked for the Classic TT,
best wishes all,and safe riding
-
As with John, I'm not SORNing the 400 but I've off roaded it to catch up on some maintenance ; head skimmed, newer cam, and a bit of powdercoating..
I'll be usung the BM all winter with it's heated grips. With all the moron car drivers I have to endure on a daily basis, I need get out for a ride to restore my soul.
-
nice sunny day,
bit chilly breeze, but enjoyed a local potter around
-
Weathers getting a bit chilly so thought I would post some 2016 Isle of Man Classic TT pictures to remind you of summer.
View from the hotel room where we stay in Peel. Just like being in the South of France.

the Glouscester based Biker night had an Christmas meal last night,
it was at the Hobnail pub, about 8 east of Tewkesbury,
28 braved the fog, mist and cold ,and a very reasonable carvery was enjoys by all,
strangely,no one actually came by bike !!!!
-
We did a round trip of almost 700 miles yesterday, Torquay and back, to pick up another SOHC we bought and it was cold, damp and pea soup fog almost all day, 4am -8pm, there were quite a few bike out though.......Nutters :o :o :o Your chums are obviously from the sensible side of the camp John.
-
Well do tell then, what flavour of SOHC is it?
