"In January 1973 the CB750 passed to its second private owner, and following several subsequent changes of ownership was reacquired by the vendor in July 2000 from a private museum collection having been restored previously (date unknown)"

Obviously, Roger Etcell who's Bonhams 'Honda' Man (I think)  doesn't have access to the old Ashimoto Dropbox  :)  ... or maybe expenses wouldn't run to a copy of the 1987 Classic Mechanics mag off eBay !! No mention it was owned by Penelope Keith's Husband either or was used as a swap for the 'Brighton Bike' at one time or that loads of parts were off a donor bike or that's its done loads of miles! Maybe they should be paying me to do their research!

Not in with the 'In crowd' Pete .. The woman on the door wouldn't even let me in the Bonhams auction the only time I ever tried to get a peek inside.. said I needed a 17.50 quid catalogue to get in or 'that will be seventeen pourds fifty sir'  in her posh voice  ;D

It's the UK press bike Uli.

I'm not saying I think it's 'worth' that, but I suspect someone will bid large for it...just an opinion, and we'll see.

I know, posted that in January

http://www.sohc.co.uk/index.php/topic,9389.15.html

27.000 GBP = 33.400 € = nearly double the price I would expct for my German KO when I finished her.

Yep, but your bike wasn't used in the press releases in Germany. People pay for uniqueness (sadly). Who knows what will happen..madness in my book...

Yes, mine wasn't agonized by any test driver in those days.
Anyway, I would pay a premium of 3-5 t€ to have some old pictures in some old bike magazines of her. But + 15 t€ ??

I grant it to the seller.

There is another one in the UK, again owned at one time by Honda UK but not a 'press bike' that's still only covered around 500 miles and totally original apart from being stripped to replace rubber cam rollers etc.. That bike or Dick Emery's bike is just as significant. YLY70H was also used for the model kit and a jigsaw puzzle FWIW. Wonder what happened to the one Lord Lichfield owned. I did a bit of research on this (took a bl**dly lot of finding I can tell you) and he had a bevvy of girls on monkey bikes and him on his CB750 travelling around London, during a Post Office strike, as he formed his own little 'Post Delivery splinter group'. Not a lot of people know that ...ooh you are awfull Ash ..get on with some bleedin' graft !

:) what you forget ash that bike was porn for us youngsters lol
the brighton bike was the first cb750 i ever saw, that was in a mag i bought from a secondhand bookshop
i was given a brochure of yly70h when i bought my brand new cb250 k2 i still have it ,and said then i will own a cb750 one day
as pete says its only a late 1970 bike its only six numbers later than one of my bikes and i got five anyways i dont need another one
so whats the sales pitch here? a bike that as been ridden to near total distuction by every bull**It journo that could get their greasy mits on it,
i got to meet keith newton and the owner of the brighton bike (lol nearly said his name then ash), years later in various bike jumbles(no internet or ebay then),i was even offered eamons bike( first one registered in uk) before he had it . they are just cb750s to me the real story is the people who owned them and restored them, nobody restored jap bikes then,i just wish i met dick emery ,now there was a porn star lol he used his own bikes in his sketches .there is a biker film out "why we ride" if you get chance to watch it great film when you are having a tinny lol
so weather you are riding or restoring a sandcast a k0 or even a monkey bike its yours ,and its your time that you are puting into it, that is the enjoyment, its your project ,not a bonhams trophy

Well said Steff...think you've hit the nail on the head there. But, someone (probably with pots of money) will I suspect pay big for this bike...who knows, will be interesting to see how it pans out..

Yea you are dead right Steff .. I remember oggling at a 750K0 in the Honda Dealers at the top of my street on my was to school. One day I was walking to school and they were prepping a bike for sale and I got talking to the old mechanic (nice bloke) and he was muttering about fancy carb balancing gauges etc etc and what a pain it was to set them up.

Attached is the 'research' I did into the Litchfield Monkey bike postal service prank in '71. I do have a doc somewhere that said that Patrick Litchfield had a CB750 at the time (He previously had a 'Ken Ives' special CB450 'Bomber' ). the book scan attached was dead easy to find on the net but the actual article on it was a real tw*t to get hold of. But being the anoraky, obsessive that I am I had to find it and I did!

I also unearthed that after dinner him and his Royal pals used to have a race around his estate on his fleet of Honda Monkey bikes and evidently Princess Anne  always used to win.

Bonhams premium.....please kindly add 15% (+ VAT on that) = 18% to the price....

"For Motorcycles (Lots 201-303 and 311-439) a 15% Buyer's Premium is payable on the first £50,000 of the final Hammer Price of each Lot, and 12% on any amount by which the Hammer Price exceeds £50,000, VAT at the standard rate is payable on the Premium by all Buyers, unless otherwise stated."

Pas mal.

Got my free Bonhams catalogue in the post today. No wonder they charge a fortune to get one it's a well glossy affair. Hoping they will let my trusty mate 'Dodgy Roger' in with it too as I think a catalogue admits two people. James & Pete have met him, 'whadya' think the chances are of them letting him in guys  ;D ;D ;D

Well Rog  offered my mate 30k for his Vincent 1000  so he has few bob. Can just imagine what  his comment will be to the posh woman on the door at Bonhams. 'If you want to take that plum out of your gob for five minutes I can easily replace it with something else"

Did you know that our friend on here UKPete is fast becoming a hippy !  ;D ;D  It never sold by the way. A bit confusing as the auctioneer said 'selling at' but when the hammer went down he never said 'SOLD'
