CB500/550 / Re: Honda SOHC engine rebuild
« on: January 23, 2016, 01:02:53 AM »
Hi
I am just rebuilding my engine on a new project i bought with a seized engine.

If you managed to change valve guides i am sure you could tackle a fuller rebuild.

Whilst i am time challenged in terms of helping i would be happy to help with phone advice, pm me if you want to talk

In terms of engineering i used a company just off the Irlam junction on m6 called micro precision to press out some horribly seized pistons, hone the bors and fix a broken off case stud and they are nice guys and did agreat job at a reasonable price www.mpeltd.co.uk

CB500/550 / Re: Exhaust Brackets wanted

Thanks all - ordered a set from the ebay Italy site, 60 Euros (about £43) delivered to UK.

About 1/2 the priec of David Silver set that comes to £78 without carriage so I guess aruond £85 all in. (albeit that does include bolts but £40 for a few bolts is a bit steep  ;) ;))

Let you know what the quality is like

 :) :)

CB500/550 / CMS Exhausts Delivered today
« on: January 22, 2016, 03:42:52 PM »
Ooooohhh !!!

Look what the delivery man brought today, my new set of aftermarket exhausts from CMSNL.

Been waiting a while for new stock but well worth the wait. Ordered Wednesday in my hands Friday  :) :) :)

At first inspection look really well chromed and well made, however at £800 all in was a big decision but I am sure once they are on I will never regret getting rid of the somewhat pitted pair of 2-1s that came with the project !!

Reason for the post -- is if anyone wants a repro exhaust set then I would highly recommend the CMSNL ones but stock does seem to be a bit erratic.

Does anyone have a set of mounting brackets for the original 4 exhaust system spare they would be willing to sell?

Just on my final stage of engine rebuild and about to put back Cam but I have some confusion/questions around how all this works. This is really about satisfying my curiosity more than anythinig else............

So you line up the 1.4 timing mark so pistons 1 and 4 are at TDC and then line up the marks on the cam - I get all that but this got me thinking -- cos as an engineer I like to understand how all this works so here's my confusion.

Lets say Pots 1 and 4 fire at TDC , crank then  rotates 180 on the bang stroke, then rotates another 180 on the exhaust stroke and 1 and 4 then get to TDC again at the end of the exhaust stroke. Now surely the 1 an4 points will open again and fire the plug again. I would have thought the crank needed to rotate 360 before firing 1 and 4 again.

Clearly I am missing something obvious here or dooes it fire again at the top of the exhaust stroke.

Looking forward to demystifying this !!!

I am a bit mystified  >:( >:( >:(

Thanks
Probably a stupid question but i note the Roadrider is shown as a tubeless tyre do you have to fit tubes anyway on the honda rims

CB500/550 / Tyre Recommendation
« on: January 10, 2016, 12:05:07 AM »
I am sure this has been asked a hundred times but i am looking for tyre recommendations for my 500 4 project

I would prefer to err with more modern technology  that privides maybe asofter compound and bettrer grip han trying to keep a "classic" look

What would fellow riders recommend

CB500/550 / Proof of age documentation
« on: January 04, 2016, 04:27:45 PM »
I will soon be looking to apply for an age related registration form my 1971 500 Four K0 that was imported from USA in 2015.

I have all the correct Nova paperwork etc but may be struggling struggling to get a proof of age document that DVLA will accept

. I contacted Honda in the USA who sent me the attached but DVLA said they need to know both Year AND Month of manufacture but the person I had on teh phone was pertty clueless.

Does anyone by any chance know if the attached would be acceptable as proof of age documentation, Honda USA are saying this is all they can provide.

Thanks all

« on: December 21, 2015, 05:59:28 AM »
Does anyone have any pictures of assembling shift drum and mainshaft/layshaft.

I am struggling to get mine back in correctly on my rebuild

Even just a couple of pics showing them assembled would be good
