Why is the back end sitting up so high ? I did notice it at M&P.

It’s something with the back springs/shocks. I could barely get my feet on the floor when I sat on it actually.

That's lovely, we saw it advertised, if its the same one, at M&P, are you sure you're going to take it apart just for fun ☺☺☺

Yes it’s from M&P. Took them about two weeks to deliver it but it’s here now. Yes it needs work and as with most bikes it looks better in photos than it does up close. I need to have a word with Trig actually about the engine at some point.
I would have a word with M&P as they still have it advertised but thats modern day sales techniques for youi suppose 😕😕😕. Nice to have something to fettle with over the winter.

Yes was talking to them about that today actually. It’s certainly going to need some fettling so it should keep my busy for a while.

Thats beautiful - my first new Honda Four in 1972

Thank you. It’s the same age and colour as the one I had back in the 70’s too. Just wish it was in the same nick but not too bad for forty odd years later.

Please excuse my ignorance but what is “the Brighton bike”?

No worries. It was one of four pre-production prototypes, two of which were at the Motorcycle show held in Brighton in 1969. The one at the event was the gold one, the other was was green and nobody I believe, knows where it is or if indeed it still exists.

Thanks for the link. God that makes me feel old  :(

Really appreciate reading all this stuff K2-K6 . Just was this section was created for. Like 'Jensen' who I mentioned,  you may not get a flurry of responses as the info takes a bit of absorbing, understanding and reading around. But it's here as a great reference and easily accessible outside of the 'day-day' forum posts.

In the early 70's I had a Honda CD175A sloper. The local Honda dealer 'Ken Blakey' who had been a dealer since early doors waxed on about using 'Filtrate' oil in Honda's (dark grey because it has molybdenum disulphide in it). So, at great expense, I replaced the 175 oil with Filtrate oil  but at the next oil change I cleaned the centrifugal filter housing and was shocked to find so much black stuff in the housing that there was only a pencil size hole down the centre.  So what was all that about? Does anyone else have experiences with Filtrate oil (it came from Leeds)?

The Honda main dealer on the Isle of Wight (Dave Death) in the 70’s used Filtrate oil in all new bikes. In fact apart from 2 stroke oil it was all he sold.

Hi guys,

nowadays due to health, terrible roads here, traffic from hell and having the attention span of a goldfish any bikes are just an ornament that I pass the time of day buggering about with. It's in the blood.

Thanks and I will bear that in mind but I think it’s a bit of a winter project first :)

I expect it brakes and handles better than the bloody HD thing too (until memories of the 70’s start flooding back at least :) )
Welcome Steve, If you need someone to take the 500 for a run........

Seriously you will find it easier to handle that the Harley plow puller. Remember your retired and take it out when its quiet. Plenty of lovely b roads in your region.

I have lots of info for the 500, manuals, parts books, service letters etc. What year is the one you have comming? Best of luck with it they are far lighter and more manouverable than Harley Fergusons

Thank you :). It’s a 1975 which is the same and the same colour as the one I had back then too. Anything other than that I don’t know about as I haven’t seen it yet. My wife bought it for me and it doesn’t arrive here now until Thursday.
