CB500/550 / cb550 carb problems
« on: January 30, 2011, 08:55:48 PM »
hi everyone, well after getting the k3 started after 28 years in bits i have a problem.it will fire up for a few seconds using easystart but will not keep going. It seems to be a carb problem, the float chambers are full of fuel but dosnt seem to be getting through to the cylinders.I took the carbs off again to clean thoroughly, they seem to be quite clean anyway, but the jet that pushes into the bottom and has small holes in the side seems to be blocked.Should the central hole go from top to bottom as i cannot push a wire more than a few mm into either end, i have tried 3 up to now with the same result, including one from a spare carb.I gather carb problems are common on these bikes so any help appreciated, Mick.

CB500/550 / cb550 k3 lives again

Had to share this with you guys, my k3 started up today for the first time since 1982! Only for a few seconds with easy start, but it goes! This gives me motivation to go out into a cold garage to continue the restoration of this bike, aparently it was abandoned in 81/82 then purchased by the previous owner, who restored lots of bits over the years but never finished it, i bought it as a pile of bits.Hopefull it might be ready for summer.cheers, Mick

thanks Bryan, and Andy your bike looks great, a twin of mine when its finished! interesting solution,my exhausts are very solid, main problem is marks on the top at rear end, i think due to panniers rubbing, so will probably get them rechromed at some point when i am feeling rich!

CB500/550 / 4 into 4 exhausts
« on: December 28, 2010, 04:32:20 PM »
hi all, whats the latest on the standard 4/4 exhausts for the k3? I know genuine ones are not available but does anyone make a pattern set? i actually like the look of these,i have a reasonable set on my imported bike, this was the main reason i bought it (from DK motorcycles) to use as spares for my other bike. They would rechrome ok but at what cost, any idea anyone?

i agree most people like the sound and look of a 4 cyl bike with 4/1 pipes although my k3 project will have original 4/4 system for the standard look.at present i have fitted a motad, bike not running yet bit too cold today!

hi all  no Bryan exhaust is a chrome Piper 4/1 it did sound great, not as loud as the previous dunstall 4/2. other period mods were box section swing arm, alloy rims  koni shocks black engine with chromed covers and that fairing was one of the first twin headlamp models had 2 cibie spots. hope to work on k3 this w/e waiting on some parts but lots more to do, meanwhile here is another pic, cheers, Mick
