CB750 / Starter motor won't turn engine
« on: April 04, 2024, 11:46:49 AM »
Hi Guys, just getting bikes ready for sale and 750K2 won't turn motor enough to crank engine to start - cranks slowly and progressively slows (starts first kick on kickstarter). Battery at 12.6v but when cranking (with kill switch off), only 4.5 to 5 volt. Battery is a Motobatt thats 4 or 5 years old.
Only other thing of note is I refurbed starter clutch recently - motor worked fine after fitting Toutmax kit. (didn't disconnect any wiring while doing this to avoid any connection issues). Starter solinoid only stops working (clicks) when battery decreases to 4.5 volts
Does this indicate a duff battery (before I buy new battery)

Can't remember if it's 750 but I did once use a rear axle to remove one. Fitted perfectly but no idea what the thread size was. I was just trying everything I had to hand that day.

Tried that but it's too small Roy

Thanks Ken but probably difficult to juggle a time thats convenient for us both as I am at Christie's in Manchester for radiotherapy (different times every day Monday to Friday) and Hyperberic Oxygen treatment (alternative supporting therapy) each day in Chorley in the other part of the day - so most of each day taken up battling this b*****d tumor!
Wait until your wifes better - parts arn't going anywhere so you can pick them up after she's better
I'll order a puller off eBay so probably won't work on it until next weekend

Defo not m14 Ash as 18mm bolt is loose in the hole. Think its the end of M20 bolt thats nackered - tried filing bolt end but no luck. Don't want to force in case I knacker the rotor thread

Can anyone please advise off the rotor puller size/thread please. Need it off to replace the starter clutch as it slips occasionally. I have a R/H M20 x 1.5 bolt that I'm sure I've used this before but it won't start to screw in
Cheers

Let's all hope it's successful Phil.

I'll contact you next week and arrange a time to come up.

My missus is pretty ill at the moment and I don't want to leave her alone at the moment or I'd have been up this weekend.
Don't worry Ken, they are not going anywhere so don't leave your wife until it's convenient
