When I was modifying my 750F2 I found a company that was selling phosphor-bronze swinging arm bearings.As you may or may not know the standard ones are made of plastic...not very confidence inspiring.
So I managed to buy 5 sets of these.One set went into my 750 project,another set into my wifes CB550F2, with another set in a friends CBX1000Z.The other sets were sold to other needy friends.At that time these sold for about

I'm afraid that the company that I bought the PB bearings from ceased trading many years ago. But I did read more recently that you could buy them on fleebay for not too much...some place in Portugal. I am sure that if the likes of DSS could be made to import them then he would have a regular flow of orders. Failing that, there are several machining firms in Classic MCM who may well be able to make some up for you. I needed some for my Honda XL250SA, could not find any that I could buy so I machined some up from Dural (an aluminium with more tin in the alloy which gives a better machined finish). These were still in the bike after 15,000 miles with no problems.

Has anybody got a spare pair of new 400/4 swingarm bushes, O/E or otherwise please? :)

Probably way too late but why not go the needle bearing kit?? 5 piece set, grease them and leave alone forever.

Needle bearings aren't ideal in that application. The needles need 360 degree rotation to stay lubricated properly.

True Lester but when would you ever need to turn the swingarm 360 degrees?? I know people who race that strictly use needle bearings. The swingarm only moves up and down maybe 10-15 degrees?? IF even that? But whatever I was actually wondering how do I get these bushings out?? I am changing mine to needles but those bushings are really in there. Any advice Lester??

The problem is that needles NEED to turn 360 its the 10 to 15 that knackers them!!
to get bushes out use a hacksaw blade to cut through them, takes time but in the end it's the easiest way

I got the bearings in. Much smaller than the original. To me it seems like they should sit flush with the outside so the bearing covers will protect any kind of contaminants. I've also heard setting them back 5mm. Any thoughts??

Depends on the year but you need the top hat thrusts and felt seals if originaly fitted to take the side thrust and fill the gap in the frame

Got a 1971 CB500four. The place I bought them said to ditch everything including the felt and caps. The new caps have bearings in them so I can see why. What I am wondering however is how far to press them in?? I've heard typically 5mm?? Does that sound about right?
