Title: Stainless Steel 500 wheel & engine spacers
Post by: McCabe-Thiele (Ted) on October 22, 2022, 12:09:01 PM
I have just received a set of S.S. spacers from Max (amx1992) who made them specially for me using my old ones as pattern.

I previously bought some from him for  my 400 so asked Max if he could make me a set - if you PM him he might make some more!

PS I posted this without asking Max & without fear or favour.

Yeah, I'd be interested as well. IIRC there are 2 engine spacers, there's a smaller one on the bottom rear bolt. Should be easy to replicate as it's just a doughnut shape.

I’d be up for a full set too please, for the 550.

Would you want a full set to make a pattern from? I can send through if it helps?
Cheers

Id be happy to make more sets, but wont be until the end of the month when I've cleared some of my work backlog.

I think I have dimensions for the front wheel spacer (44311300000) and the upper engine spacer (50359323010)

I will need the dimensions, if anyone can help, for the 500 rear drum side spacer (42313323010) and 500 rear sprocket side spacer (42311323040). Its mainly just the overall length I need to check.

Is that part no 50357323010, If I can get the dimensions, Ill add them into the sets for no extra charge

Anyone interested can PM me and once I've sorted dimensions out, ill get making them.

What sort of dimensions do you need? width, bore size, length etc.

I should have all of those lying around somewhere.

Cheers Oddjob, I think I just need the length of those 2 spacers if you have it.

Just to check the bore on both is 20mm, the sprocket side one O/D is 38mm stepping down to 34mm, and the brake side one O/D is 35mm with a 28mm reduced part in the centre.

I hope that makes sense

Of course, when you want to find those spacers they decide they don't want to be found. I've found all the others except for the 2 I need to find. The rear wheel spacer (brake side) has been in my face for ages now, keep seeing it when I'm looking for other parts as it's been stripped of the chrome it was done in last time and awaiting some work before having it done again. I won't need to do that with a stainless one but ATM I can't seem to find any. Oddly enough I found a box with everything out of the front and rear wheels except of course those 2 spacers, I found the internal one that goes inside the bearing inside the hub but that's no use.

Anyone else have these parts handy?

500 and 550 use different rear wheel spacers Roo, O/S side is certainly different, N/S could be the same. I suppose he'll need measurements of both. The engine space though should be the same.

Well, I'll bloody well measure mine anyway, you see if I dont! ;D

Max just an idea but I'd also consider making the internal spacer for the rear wheel 42625-283-000, https://www.cmsnl.com/honda-cb500k1-four-england_model14660/collar-b-axle_42625283000/ the reason I suggest this is because it tends to get damaged when removing the rear wheel bearings if you don't know or in my case don't remember to drive out the O/S bearing first. I had to buy a new one and got the last one in stock at CMS, cost me around £30 inc P&P. They are very hard to find these days so maybe consider making some and selling them on Ebay for instance. Part 12 on this diagram. https://images.cmsnl.com/img/partslists/honda-cb500k1-four-england-rear-wheel-driven-sprocket_bigma000083f16_6185.gif

If it helps I still have the old damaged one lying around so you could have that to help copy it.

Cheers Oddjob, looks like its used on quite a few models so probably worth making a few. Would be great if i could get the damaged one to copy.

PM me your address and I'll get it in the post for you. It's a bit damaged but only on the top edge and if you need any measurements confirming I have a NOS one available to measure up.

Not sure what's happened Max but I got your PM with the address, just gone back to the message box so I can address the envelope and it's gone. It's like Steve has reverted to an earlier version of the forum and lost everything that was posted after a certain time. Can you send it again please.

Not guilty m’lud.

I will take a look after dinner. Deciphering  Julie’s screenshots on my phone is not going to hack it.

Got the address now Steve, cheers.

I found the sprocket side spacer, forgotten I'd had it hard chromed along with the spindle and it was still on the rear wheel spindle where I left it, logical really.

It's 32mm length, 20mm bore, 38mm wide at largest point but steps down to 34mm, the step is 8mm. Has a very slight chamfer on the smaller end where it goes through the oil seal. About 1.5mm of chamfer.

Well bugger me I've only gone and found the brake plate spacer as well. Got my lad bringing round my engine bolts from the other garage and hopefully the engine spacer will be threaded on the bottom bolt.

Anyway, dimensions

Length  45mm
Bore  20mm
Width 35 chamfers down to 28mm. Lip on edge of spacer 3mm on both edges

They look a little smaller diameter wise Charlie, 500 or 550? They are different for some reason.

Trick of the camera Ken. They are a perfect match, just not all worn and gnarly.
