Out & About / Re: OUT AND ABOUT 2018

My early morning plan to ride to the Cabin Dairy Tearooms in Burnham-on-Crouch was scuppered by the non-forecast rain.
So dusted off the old iron cage and went for a burn up with my father in law in his latest acquisition.

CB350/400 / Re: Fitting Tyres
« on: October 11, 2018, 04:03:08 PM »
I do all my own tyres and usually with success.
Always use good heavy duty tyre levers like these - https://www.frost.co.uk/tyre-levers-pair.html
Always use tyre soap with a brush.
And the best tool in the box is one of these - https://www.bikerstoolbox.co.uk/cgi-bin/sh000001.pl?WD=tube%20valve&PN=Wheels_and_Drive_Chains%2ehtml#aBI_2dVLVPUL
Inner tube valve puller invaluable for getting the valve through the pesky hole which the tyre rim always prevents you from locating.
I get one side rim on spin it over and work the other side making sure it's well lubed at all times.
As you work the rim around it of course gets tighter and tighter. On particularly tough ones I get Mrs Green to stand on one side while I work towards her on the other until it finally pops in.
Inflate with compressor and slightly over pressure to help pop the rim on and then deflate as required.
I don't know why anyone pays for someone else to do it.

I think if you study picture 2 you can see the battery positive in top right with a red heat shrink around the end of the cable by the terminal. I see what you're saying but depends on whether Athame57 can confirm if he disconnected both ends of batt +

Just studied your photo 2 more closely. Why have you got 3 leads loose? Something wrong there.
Edit
It looks like the one with the rubber boot at the end (the one not arrowed) is the starter cable. The other one? I can't tell, Possibly an earth strap. Been a long time since I've looked under that cover.

The starter solenoid has 2 large terminals, usually threaded stubs with nuts that wind down, and 2 small terminals/connections.
One of the large terminals should be connected to battery positive as you mentioned. The other large terminal should be connected to the heavy cable that disappears into the side cover/crankcase area that leads to the starter itself. The other 2 smaller terminals are from the starter button and clutch switch and from memory are colour coded so should be easy to identify.
Hope that helps.

WWWWAAAAHHHHH!  :o Mine is £1050 TPFT! I'm 61, clean licence not made a claim 30 years! Alas, I live in Shadwell east London, part of what the insurance world do or did call the 'Bermuda triangle' ....because so much goes missing.
That makes me laugh! I Used to live/work in London and sometimes we’d go drinking in east end. To get to and fro from where  I lived in Putney I’d have to change at Shadwell from overground to DLR and vice versa. Due to the areas’ reputation we used to call it “doing the Shadwell Shuffle”. I survived though.
In my sleepy hamlet I pay around £200 for 6 bikes fully comp. don’t know why you’d want to live in the smoke?
