CB750 / Re:CB750 K1 Damaged frame/center stand
« on: November 25, 2006, 04:50:16 PM »
Hi Nick,
I used to own a CB750K1 and the centre stand siezed on me, when I looked closer the centre stand pivot had rusted to the centre stand and had been turning in the frame clamps. The only way to remove the stand was to twist the frame clamps. Sounds like this has happened to your bike in the past. What I did was to have two blocks made which I bolted to the clamps and hung the centre stand from them, it did not look pretty but worked.
Would like to see a photo of the bar before passing any further comment.

Cheers

CB750 / Re:750 F2 CAMCHAIN
« on: November 19, 2006, 08:01:38 PM »
Hi Dave,
To change the camchain you would have to remove the engine from the frame, also the original chain is endless so would require a full strip. Why do you want to change the cam chain ?
The rear light/number plate on the CB750F1 and F2 (I own one of each) are both fitted to a chrome rail which runs just below seat height and has a bracket on the rear, have never seen one fitted to a seat tail.
For most parts for your bike I would recommend David Silver Spares.
Finding a standard exhaust would be very difficult (and expensive) the same applies for a chainguard, you might find something on eBay though.
Welcme to the SOHC world.

CB750 / Re:Valve Cover Bolts
« on: November 13, 2006, 04:43:45 PM »
Hi,
Just replaced my valve/cam cover bolts with new chromed Allen headed ones from Custom Fasteners, they list an engine cover set but it does not include the cam cover.
Got the sizes from my parts book (CB750F1) they should be the same for your bike, they have to be ordered individually from their website, the sizes are:
No.   Size   Postion
10   6 X 63   6 forward 4 back, ordered 65 mm size
4   6 X 40   2 each end
2   6 X 75   Breather cover rear
1   6 X 50   Breather cover front
The Honda manual states 5.1 - 8.0 ft-lbs for 6mm screw, I've just bought a set of Allen screw sockets for my 3/8th torque wrench from Machine Mart.

CB750 / Re:Differnce between cb750 four/cb750
« on: October 13, 2006, 04:09:02 PM »
Hi,
Don't really know how to answer this one as the US models were different to the UK, but I'll have a go.
The Honda CB750 SOHC (single over head cam) was produced from 1968 to 1978, originally when I first bought a CB750 they were purely known as Honda fours because there was no other 4 cylinder Honda's, rightly Honda plastered 750 four on the side panels and every where else to show off ! So this may be were you have been confused, some people call them 750 fours, some people call them CB750's.
In the SOHC production run the bikes varied from the sports tourers labelled
CB750K's and the latter more (?) sporty CB750F models which were produce alonside the K's. The CB750F's were also tagged as Super Sports (SS). The engine changed internally, and the cosmetics changed quite a bit over the years. So the real difference is in the model either CB750K or CB750F.

Hope this helps

Try again my post went missing !
If you are happy paying that price then go for it, I would if I was searching for an engine. Have worked on K1, K2, F1 and F2 and have not noticed any difference in the frame mounts, so the K8 should be OK in your frame. The K8 however had different carbs from the F1, are these included with the engine, if not I should imagine the F1 carbs will be OK maybe need re jetting.

Welcome,
Nice to hear of someone bringing another CB750 back to life, I'm currently rebuilding my 1976F1, it has sat in my garage for 12 years while I was working overseas, it's a bit heartbreaking as it was roadworthy when I left in 1994.
I get parts either from CMS, David Silver spares, or from eBay, just got a load of F1 bits in a job lot from eBay, also this weekend I'm taking delivery of a top end from an F2 (I've got one as well).
Engines do come up on eBay, recently there was one from a K series with 12k on the clock, I cannot remember what it eventually went for but it started out as

Hi Terry,
Try David Silver Spares, if the part is not on their website give them a ring, they are very helpfull, try also CMS.
Just took delivery of a front mudguard for my CB750F1 from eBay and it is in excellent condition, so they are out there, just be carefull.

Hi there,
I'm sitting here with my CB750F2 manual in front of me, says the float height should be 14.5 mm for the F model. The manual is very good and only cost

Hi,
Sounds like you really want a K model (tank, fork boots), not 100% sure on interchangeability but I have 2 F's and finding bits for them seems harder than finding bits for a K.

Looks very sad, where are the rest of the parts, do you have them ?
It should keep you out of trouble for quite some time !
I have an F2 that sat outside in the rain for 2 years with the plugs out, every time I went round to my mates house I could see it in the garden next door, eventually I bought it as a project bike to stop me getting bored.

Good luck

Just a warning, the VHT paint that I used is great, BUT I overcooked the cylinder barrels (2 hours at 200oc instead of 1 hour) and it came out a lovely metallic gold colour ! Have just re masked and sprayed it !

CB750 / Re:Engine froze up
« on: September 19, 2006, 01:59:28 PM »
Hi Larry,
Sounds like you have a real problem there, my 76 CB750F sat in my garage for 12 years without being touched and it spins freely. But when I stripped it I found a nipped up top compression ring on No. 2 cyclinder.
I did buy a 77 CB750F2 that had sat outside in the English weather for 2 years and was locked solid, took the motor out and spent a long time with WD40 and large rubber mallet/pieces of wood to strip it down. Had to do a complete top end overhaul, new rings pistons etc.
If it were mine and I was in no hurry I would pull the plugs and squirt WD40 into the cylinders and periodically try to turn the engine. But not that I am no expert, presumably if the engine used to spin up and it has not been run up there should be no problem with the bottom end or gearbox.
However even if you free it off, you will not know the condition of the pistons/rings and cylinders. If it does free off do a compression test to try to gauge how healthy it is.
There may be better additives out there but I do not know of any.

Good luck

Hi Ray,
How is your front tyre, have you balanced the front wheel, is there any play in your steering head, are your front and back tyre pressures OK.
Is your rear wheel in alignment with your front ?
Is your front brake binding
Just a few ideas

Hi Jim,
E mail sent, have finished the house renovation and am now back to Honda renovation.
Have completely stripped the bike, removed the head and barrels, have sprayed the cylinder head, barrels, oil pan and oil filter housing looking good so far.
Sprayed the parts left to dry over night and then baked in the oven for 1 hour at 200oc. The hardest part was removing the old paint and the oxidised aluminium, lots of work with the Dremel required, even though the head and barrels were soaked in a bath for 2 days at my local car engine shop.
Would attach photos if I knew how !

Cheers

Dennis
