10 minutes with some Autosol and it'll be good as new.
...that would possibly be a world's record... unless it was four and twenty blackbirds doing the polishing...hehe

I like the piece of wood for the passenger foot rest, that would oil up nicely.

Yeah, it is pretty rustic, possibly the limb that those blackbirds were perched in before they got the Autosol all over their feathers...



Same model as mine, Honda seem to have had a huge problem getting the chrome plating to stick to the rims.
I can't for the life of me figure out how they got such poor quality chrome. Even the Brit bike marquee's with their limited pre-war technology did a rather good job of chroming (triple nickel plate) their inferior machines... it holds up quite well!

My friend Pat had a 73 CB750 come through his shop with one, evidently they burn up rather quickly sometimes, and we pulled it and fitted points back into it, it ran great after that... Wouldn't be my choice for an electronic ignition, but others have had them and hadn't experienced this type of problem. It was the 2nd one in this bike.

Hi All,
my friend Pat, who runs a cycle salvage in Toledo found this bike from a fellow, and it is a bit rough and missing the left side cover. He had never seen one without ComStars on it and this one has wire wheels, making it the standard model, I guess. The fellow he got it from used to be stationed in Hawaii in the service, and brought it back home with him. Just thought I would share it with the forum!

Earlier in the year I put a pair of Dunlop StreetSmart  tyres on my f1 and have been happy with them and would buy again. I found them to be more to my liking than the Bridgestone BT45s  I took off.
Those StreetSmart tires look pretty nice but I haven't been able to find them anywhere except European distributors... not sure if they carry them here in the States! Did a quick search, and only found UK, Canadian, and European distributors. If you prefer them to the Bridgestone BT45's that says a lot!  Usually, Dunlop Arrowmax sport tires have a triangular profile that makes them turn in quicker, too.

yeah, I guess I could bend up a 'U' shape at the proper centers for the slits in the rubber holder, and then bolt or weld it to the battery box! I will use the 4th fuse holder as a spare 15 amp fuse holder, it is good for them all then lol...

Because my CB750 has later ComStar wheels on it, the rear is a 2.50-17, and I am going with the Shinko 712's as they make a 130/90-17 for it. I will get the 100/90-19 for the front to match it. It should ride and handle very well.

A great tire (tyre) that is very affordable, is the Shinko 712 series. They grip extremely well, wear pretty good, and are in the 100/90-19 and 110 or 120/90-18 sizes. I can have the set shipped to my door for a little over $100 US, not sure about your distributors there in the UK. I hada set on my 1982 Yamaha XZ550RK Vision, they tore up the race track in my race school, and I proceeded to put 5k street miles on them, with negligible wear. I figured that the rear would have given me at least 8-9k miles. I like Continental tires, and also Avon ( I have the AM26's on my Royal Enfield Bullet 500), so check the Shinko 712 out, not a bad looking tread either.

I ended up just altering the battery box a little bit and mounted it here:



I reckon there’s enough air flow behind the side panel to keep it cool.

As for the underside, I indent to mount a transistorised ignition under there so it’s occupado  :)

Also got a bladed fuse box to make a mount for.

It is a nice mount! Well done! I am also getting rid of the three glass fuse holder, and have made a new harness for the 4 blade fuse holder I purchased from eBay for $5.90... it is in my state, but not in my possession yet lol. Probably receive it after Christmas. The solenoid that came with my bike doesn't have a bolt-on bracket like yours, mine came with the rubber sleeve with the two slits for mounting on two sheet metal tabs, but for the life of me, I can't figure out where they might be. I still have the 1971 battery box, but I do have a later one like yours, that has the bolt on fuse tabs, and the starter safety switch tabs also, along with the rectifier and regulator tabs. I was thinking of swapping it out, but it has no tabs for the solenoid either. So, I will probably zip tie it somewhere provident.

I just got done replacing all the rubber mounts on my side covers, and will use the Vaseline method to give it the suppleness for insertion... reminds me of the old adage...
"Big or little, thick or thin, Vaseline will get you in"  ::)

That's a nice mount he made, but perhaps not the best spot as it is behind the engine and catches heat from it. It's also out of the air flow, unless the hot air mixes with cool as it swirls around behind the engine. You really want to keep the VR out in some type of cool air for longevity. Mine was hung behind the battery/reg/rectifier box by the PO, and has an 'L' bracket with spacer off the rear left side of the box, and then a bolt and spacer into the rear fender guard at the appropriate spot. There should be enough air there to cool it, and it fits ok. If I get a chance, later today I will post a picture of it.
