Take the caliper off!   Simples!!   ;)

Haha il make sure the brake pads are nicely lubricated before going that far

CB750 / Squealing front breaks when wheeling bike around

Front disc and pads recently replaced, I get a lot of squealing when wheeling my bike in and out the garage. No noticeable squealing when actually riding it at any speed. Probably done about 250 miles since the change.

Any suggestions on what I can look at to reduce this at all?

ok, thanks.

I usually put stp oil additive (also called oil treatment) or the wynns version in my cars and bikes as added internal metal to metal protection (and it makes the engine a lot quieter!!).  I have not put any in my moto guzzi nor the cb 400 I have recently finished a 'light' resto on as both have a wet clutch but I was thinking of using stp in both and the cb750f2 I have almost finished not least so it quietens down the primary drive chain!!.

I use the diesel version of triple qx in my 750 as I once read that the additives for the diesel turbo are good for the old wet clutches

Had one on 750F1 for years, here it is on the bike prior to the refurb.

Cheers

Is that a tarozzi?

Telefix fork brace on a 400
Looks decent!

I feel it's a myth that the original braces offer anything in the way of structural integrity to the forks and wouldn't bother for that reason.

They have a load path that adds nothing to the far greater in size and strength fork tubes plus triple clamps.  Also the legs are secured to each other via a substantial wheel spindle.  The standard bolts used on the mudguard also being too small to assist in the loads you're intending to counteract.

I always run a mudguard to prevent it flinging rubbish around in wet conditions,  it does nothing more though.

An interesting take, as I mentioned in my original post I’ve not actually noticed any slop, suppose I’m just worried about something flexing when cornering at speed

Currently run no front fender on my 750k6 build, I haven’t noticed any significant slop in the front end (but then again I don’t hammer the old girl) but have been recently thinking about a fork brace.

Original plan was just to use the inner bracket off the front fender but mine was too nice to chop up so it’s gone to someone else. On the look out for one that’s damaged so I Won’t mind destroying it as much but I suppose it still won’t be as good as a real fork brace.

Anyone using a fork brace here? Would love to know which one and see some pics!

Hello chaps.

Well, unfortunately due a new family and other ongoing projects I’ve started thinking about selling the bike. Breaks me a bit knowing that the blood sweat and tears that went into the bike will never truly be reflected in the value.

What do you guys think the bike is worth?

I’ve not been on it for 6 months, there was a problem with the battery not always charging properly, front brake despite having a rebuild isn’t quite right (could just be it needs rebleeeing) and I never truly got the jetting nailed.

Oh and I went abroad for 6 months totally left fuel in it  ;D

Basically I’ve zero time for tinkering so going to shift it instead

With the bike running put the multimeter across the battery terminals (set to the 20v range), rev the bike up to 3k revs and you should get approx 14.2v, if you don’t it’s your alternator or associated wiring, if you do get 14.2 then it’s the battery that’s not holding it’s charge, if you get more than 14.2(ish) then it’s the reg rec,

Yeah not getting any increase so must be the alternator playing silly buggers

Tried a different (electrosport) reg rec and had no success. The bike lives on an oximiser now butdoesnt seem to have enough juice to start off the e start ever always needs kicking, voltage is IIRC 12.8ish when the oximiser stops charging. When I used an old school battery charger in it the battery charged all the way to 15v (which I’m unsure if this is good or not) and spring to life in milliseconds on the e start

No you will need to put battery positive voltage to rhe white wire and earth the green one to power the field coil then with engine running you should get AC across each of the 3 pairs of yellow wires

Should have probably done this first..

You can, test the 3 coming out of the stator like that, and the voltage coming out is the same plus or minus a volt or two, just make sure your rotor is powered up as well.

As in rev the bike over 2k rpm?

I recently sent 3 RR24 reg/rec's back to M&P's all of them not working correctly, got a refund in the end, i then got a UK made RR24 from elcterexworld, more expensive but worked correctly from the moment i fitted it, seems there is a dodgy batch at M&P and they are happy to keep selling them, when i get things like this i only cut the corners off of the bags they are in just enough to get the plugs out, i then test run them, the reg/rec's never leave the bag until i am sure they are good.

Did cross my mind it could be the reg rec. is there anyway to benchtop test them?

I suppose if I test the stator is working then by process of elimination it must be the reg rec. Am I able to unplug the stator connector and with the bike running test AC voltage across pairs of the yellow wires?

The internal battery in your multimeter! Touching the wires together should give a reading of 0  Zero, whatever scale it is set to for Ohms. Any reading other than Zero with the leads shorted points to a low battery, no point testing anything if the meter is not reading correctly!
It’s a new battery in a new multimeter, was only £5 so probably Chinese build quality letting me down. Will have a fiddle around with it tomorrow

Finally going to have some fettling time today so going to sort the petcock and carbs.

Running on the rich side so need to raise the needle clip either 1 or 2 notches. How long do I need to run the bike for before looking at plug colour again to see if I need to move needle position again? And do I need to clean up the plugs if they’re already a bit blackened from rich running or does this get burnt off?

I raised the needle clip one position and didn’t really see a difference. Today I changed the main jets from #120 down to #110 leaving the needle position the same, was hoping to see a difference either good or bad but literally feels exactly the same with the flat spot at 3.5-4krpm. As I’ve said before I appreciate with pods it will never run as well as with an air box but I thought I would at least feel the difference of a significant change in jetting?

CB750 / Battery not charging - what else to check
« on: September 29, 2018, 06:43:58 PM »
Got an issue with my battery not charging, just runs down when I ride it and needs kick starting pretty much on any start up where it’s not just come off a trickle charger, run fine and hasn’t failed in getting me home yet but obviously I’d like to sort this, I’m unsure whether a severely discharged battery will stop the bike kick starting..?

So the battery is a new AGM one, my reg rec is a solid state ‘RR24’ from M and P (think it’s the same one wemoto sell) and my harness is simplified to avoid the safety gubbins.

What I’ve checked so far:

Fuses - all good
Battery was at 12.71v with ignition off
Dropped a bit as it failed to start off the e start so had to kick it, voltage was at 11.63 at 4K rpm
Resistance from neg battery lead (disconnected)  to black regulator wire is 0.05ohm (on 200 setting)
Resistance between yellow stator wires (checked at the connector block) are all 0.8ohm (on 200 setting)
Resistance of the stator wires in the main harness itself are all 0.4ohm (on 200 setting) but I get the same value when I touch the multimeter test wires together so I guess this is as low as it goes.
Resistance from the green wire on the Reg/red to the yellow stator wires is between 179 and 200ohms (on 200 setting). From the red wire on the reg/red to the yellow stator wires it’s 178-180 ohms.

Unsure what else to check? Was hoping it would be obvious but electrics is still something I’m getting to grips with. Have checked for any obvious corrosion or mismatched wires, the main harness is new and the other bits have all had their connectors cleaned.

Any guidance much appreciated!
