Title: Light at the end of the tunnel
Post by: dieffe on March 19, 2015, 07:28:52 PM
I am so close to finishing the K1 I can almost taste it. I just hope that light at the end of the tunnel isn't a train coming.  :)

It runs although it pissed fuel everywhere because the fuel lines are so far gone (valuable lesson learnt), all the electrics now work and I managed to get hold of a re-chromed front mudguard for buttons (well, comparatively).

All it needs now is a rear mudguard, headlamp and rim (the one that's on is a concave Cibby thing with a dented rim), matching indicator lenses instead of the multi-coloured ones that are on, the rear brake assembly as it is away having three feet of powder-coating removed and a few other bits and bobs.
Most annoying thing is I need a set of seat blocks and a seat spring that pops it up. Any ideas? DS is the obvious but the blocks are special order and the spring is discontinued.

Oh, and I need to do something with the seat and sort a strap out and see if I can put some chrome strips on it.

That certainly is light at the end of the tunnel, so crack the throttles open and revel in the roar these old girls make in tunnels, before you reach the end. Great going, very nice! ;D

Thank you, I need all the encouragement I can get.  ;D

I forgot to put the rear view on, I still grin every time I see the reg number that is on the bike.
Also, am I right in thinking I don't need to tax it as it is a 1971 bike?

That's turned into a nice bike, well done. You will still have to tax a 1971 bike in the normal way, you just don't have to pay anything. Keep going your nearly there.

Ensure its V5C status is changed to 'Historic', but as Roy says, you still have the naus of annual tax application...

Beautiful... btw...

Looking Good.
Just sent some seat that i have made, (exact replicas not the crappy stainless ones on ebay)ends away for plating and going to make the threaded "rivet" that
holds the strap if you are interested, you will have to find a strap though.

I am very interested, I have the old strap which might be serviceable.

No problem Mick, they would have crumbled once my fat lump jumped on the bike anyway.  ::)

On another note I played with the carbs today and am quite happy with them. Number 4 was a bit low so I adjusted it which made number 1 go a bit high, so I adjusted that which made number 3 a bit low and so on.
Got there in the end though.

One other thing, when I finished I noticed oil coming out from around one of the three bolt heads that hold the inner alternator coil in. Have I missed something out or should I have sealed them with something?

Damn, so there are.

I should have noticed when I changed the bolts. Now all I need to do is try and find them.  :(

Is it me or can you hear a train whistle?

Hi Dieffe,

Just going through my, er, inventory, today and found the below. They're off a non-OEM seat. Pretty good nick, just need a clean & perhaps rub of glycerin oil.

PM me if wanting them, again, beer tokens. I'm only here (England) til Mon arvo so get me your address ASAP if I'm to post them.

Cheers,
Simon

That is brilliant, I have sent you a PM.
At least I think I have sent you a private message, when I looked in the sent folder it wasn't there?
If I haven't I will try again, I am new to this forum.  ::)
