Title: Clutch Switch Fitting
Post by: XS850 on September 06, 2022, 08:35:42 AM
This might seem like a “simple” question, but is there a particular way the clutch switch is inserted  into the clutch housing - from the lever side it’s too big and won’t “squash” down (plastic too hard) to go through the lever slot, on the other side there’s a peg on the new switch which stops it going into the “hole” without a bit of bodging & forcing - any ideas please. CB400F (75).
Cheers - Bruce

Iirc you feed the wires through first from the lever side. I did it with the lever removed. If you look inside there is a slot that the peg fits into. It can then be pushed home. If it's a eBay switch you may have to shave the switch actuation  tip slightly. I used a test lamp to fine tune it's operation.

Thank you Ted & Oddjob - it’s what I thought but have had to open out the “relief” in the lever gap (as photo) to have any clearance for the body to fit in.  Ted, tried both a DS one & eBay but appreciate the “tip” about shaving some off the actuator

Perhaps it has been sold as something it isn't on e-bay? I had to send back a main stand because of that, but on this topic I bought a clutch switch of e-bay and just about had to squeeze it in. I've got a David Silver loom also, and no the colours didn't match the male plugs on the switch cable. I tried the suck and see method but the plugs were stripped from the wires as soon as I pulled them out and not like I was forcing that part of it. I guess it was made in China. I'll try a DSS one next time maybe, but I'll ask him what the colours are for his loom and switch wires.  ;D

My loom from here was identical colours to the original plus at the time marginally cheaper than DS - & British Made someone here gave me the name/link.
