CB750 / David Silver repalcements fork tubes
« on: February 08, 2018, 10:37:07 AM »
Has anyone on here had any experience with the replacement fork tubes from DS?  I have longer than normal stanchions in my CB750 K1 forks, think they must be chopper parts by the length of them, and wanted to purchase a set of standard length tubes (failing getting the ones I have here machined down and rethreaded - is this an option?).  The tubes I need are the earlier types with the 4 ring grooves at the bottom

Any alternative suppliers appreciated  :D

CB750 / Removing powder coat - best options
« on: November 12, 2017, 07:26:56 PM »
My K1 frame is currently powder coated but I'm not overly happy with the quality.  I inherited it when I bought the basket case itself but they didn't cover off threads and things like that and the general appearance of it is a bit naff.

Now I've got a load of frame mods to do for my CR build so it's going to have to be stripped at some point and I wanted to get an idea on what the best options are.  I've heard using strippers, is  the best way to go (pardon the expression ;), ones specifically that have methanol or something in them, although this could be complete BS.  I did use paint stripper when I was attacking the K3 yoke I have here but that took forever to get the powder coat off.  Obviously sandblasting is probably the way to go but just interested if anyone had any pearls of wisdom.

I also wanted to ask about the inside of the frame itself as I noticed when I moved it there sounded like bits moving around in there. I know they are getting on a bit but is there any way of making sure that the metal is treated inside against corrosion prior to getting the exterior powder coated?

CB750 / K1 fork lower question
« on: November 06, 2017, 10:56:15 AM »
While dismantling some of the forks I have here I noticed that my K1 lowers have the bolt at the bottom of the fork but the schematics I have here don't seem to include it.  I know the K3 onwards had the bolt to hold the piston in place but going by the parts diagram in a K0-K2 fork the bolt wouldn't screw into anything as far as I can see.

I'm not entirely sure if people have drilled out earlier lowers to accommodate K3 internals (there is a lot less to the later internals than the earlier models).  Is that what I have here.

The piston stuck in one of the K1 lowers looks remarkably like the K3 piston itself.

Anyone on here heard of peeps swapping out the internals on the earlier forks?

What is it? / Swingarm year?
« on: October 29, 2017, 09:46:13 AM »
Can anyone confirm that this swingarm is a CB750 K1 swinger.  I’m thinking, looking at the axle section that it may be a later model but not entirely sure.  Anyone more in the know have any ideas?

CB750 / Carb Question
« on: October 29, 2017, 09:27:04 AM »
Having just taken apart and cleaned a set of carbs here I wanted to ask a few questions

The throttle valve itself, should there be any play at all in the needle at the bottom that goes into the float chamber as 2 of the 4 carbs all had some play.

Also the mechanism that holds it all together inside is a little gunked up as well and I’m keen to clean it all up but the two miniscule pan screws that are in there look like they’d be right pigs to get free.  Am I asking for trouble to attempt it?

It also looks from the K1 microfiche that the individual parts for the carbs aren’t available either, they’re just listed as rod set, chamber set, tube set, etc.  Do you have to buy them in a set?

Project Board / Basket case to Cr750 rep.....hopefully!
« on: October 26, 2017, 10:18:03 PM »
Long story short, bought a complete Cb750 basket case off a bloke from Coventry a number of years ago with the idea of doing an original K1 resto.  Years past and nothing happened but having seen a number of brilliant CR builds on various forums, including Marks on this forum and one over at DotheTon I decided (after a few beers) to have a blast at my own.

The timing of this decision is a little off as I was made redundant in May but you’ve got to start a project at some point so despite funds being a little lacking, my enthusiasm isn’t.

The plan was to take my K0 engine here, split the cases and pour the innards (if they were in decent nick) into my K1 cases to match the K1 frame I have here.

I don’t have the CR tank and goodies as of yet but fingered a job would be needed for these outlays.  In the meantime I was hoping to build an engine and frame that I can then bling up at a later date.

So, a few weeks ago I bought an engine stand (cheers Julie) and got to work on what might be a lengthy, expensive but hopefully enjoyable first build

This is what I’ve got to start with………wish me luck!!!

CB750 / Dual Disk question - not how to
« on: September 29, 2017, 02:35:27 PM »
I have a K1 here that I'm toying turning into some sort of CR750 rep (on a budget I might add - if this even possible) and wanted to ask a question about the caliper brackets.  I have the k1 fork lowers and K1 calipers and brackets but obviously the left side doesn't fit as it doesn't mirror the right side. I believe the K3 onwards caliper brackets could be used on both sides of the bike, is this correct?

I only ask as I have a perfectly good set of later forks that I may end up using instead of the K1 fork lowers if it's easier to get tot eh dual disk set up by using them and later caliper brackets.

Has anyone done a dual disk conversion on there K3 or older, can they confirm if this is indeed the case

Any help appreciated

CB750 / Play in con rods
« on: July 15, 2017, 09:02:15 PM »
Have just split the cases on the K0 engine here to salvage some of the parts for my K1 build. I was hoping to use the crankshaft and con rods from the K0 in the K1, obviously replacing all the main bearings to suit my k1 cases.

When examining the crankshaft in the lower case there appears to be a fair amount of play in the con rods, left to right in line with the crankshaft itself, is this normal?

I have no history for the engine at all so it may have done 100k for all I know. I just thought I'd ask as this is the first engine I've split (gotta start somewhere I guess) and have nondiea if a little play is normal.

I also wanted to ask about con rod bolts as I've heard that the later model bolts could be used a number of times whereas the earlier bolts stretched once torqued and had to be replaced if the engine was rebuilt, is this true?

Sorry for the newb questions

CB750 / Going rate for a set of HM300 exhausts?
« on: July 04, 2017, 10:32:47 PM »
I'm guessing due to how hard they are to get hold of a decent set of HM300 exhausts would be a decent amount?  What's the going rate?

I only ask as I have a set here plus a brand Muffler 1 from DSS that I may have for sale if anyone is interested?

CB750 / HM300 exhaust question
« on: July 04, 2017, 07:26:43 PM »
Quick newbie question about the original HM300 exhausts for the K0 and K1 CB750.  Did they have the paragraph etched on them at the rear of the muffler itself.  I have a set of HM300 exhausts here that are surplus to requirements for my build and I wanted to know whether they were original or not as I heard that the originals didn't have the paragraph on them at all.  Any help would be appreciated.

New Member Introductions / Hello....again
« on: July 04, 2017, 07:20:19 PM »
I last posted on here back in 2013 but feel that after 4 years away it's only right that I class myself as a newbie once again.

K1 CB750 project is still boxed up in the garage but I'm determined this time to get the thing up and running in some form or another.

CB750 / Knackered lower crankcase thread
« on: December 11, 2013, 10:04:13 AM »
Right, been having a bit of a go at the K0 engine I bought recently with a clean rag and found one of the lower engine mounts snapped off  :'(

I have a spare lower case but have heard that the upper and lower crankcases are mated at the factory?  Would it be possible to machine another lower to fit the K0 upper crankcase I have here?

Sorry for the noob question :)

CB750 / Brain picking required :-)
« on: December 10, 2013, 09:53:29 AM »
Quick question from a noob here as I want to make sure that my info is correct with regards to the main parts of my project here, namely the engines, frame and to some degree some of the other spares.

The engine numbers I have here are:

CB750E - 1040... (Is this a K0?)
CB750E - 1109...(is this a K1?) - this engine also has LEG stamped above the main number
CB750E - 2547... (Is this a K7?)

The frame number is CB750 - 1092.... (Is this a K1?)
I also have a few forks/fork legs, two of which I believe are K1 and two K7 (K1 on the right and K7 on the left of pic).

Am I right in thinking all the main engine parts will fit from K1 - K7 such as pistons etc, etc?

Cheers all

Craig

New Member Introductions / Hello from Stafford
« on: December 06, 2013, 09:00:12 PM »
Hi All

Quick hello from a new youngish CB750 K1 owner, well at least the proud owner of a load of bits anyway :-)

Was inspired by helping out my old man with his Triumph T100 restoration so bit the bullet and purchased a 'project' (wish me luck) to keep me busy in the garage and away from the tat that is Sky TV.

Looking forward to picking people's brains on here and hopefully coming out the other side with a lovely pristine excellent of a Japanese classic (fingers crossed).
