Title: are all cb550 swingarms the same?
Post by: Dunk_B on August 02, 2015, 08:53:24 PM
I'm looking to replace my swingarm as it has a welded plate on the brake side which looks terrible. are all 500/550 swingarms the same size before i get one off ebay?? it is a early k0 bike.

Thanks Duncan

Not the same, but swapable, some have removable end blocks and others are closed ended. I have fitted 550 swing arms to 500s, but I have the full bike to remove the swing arm from so no dramas if say the ends are different but an ebay buy might have bits removed. Be aware, also details bother some, myself I just want the thing to work and be safe.

great thanks for that i just wasn't sure about hub widths etc and didn't want to buy one then it end up being too wide/narrow for the rear wheel.

The CB550K0 (usa) was fitted with the swing arm from the CB500 four, Oddjob has a very good point, if you are keeping it STD.

I have fitted an F swingarm to a 500 with 4 int 1 no problem, the problems come with the rear hubs and brake plates which alter with the later 550 and although the shoes are the same the brakeplates dont transfer to early hubs (as i found out!)
