Looking at a lot of work to while away the long winter nights, with Solvol, a toothbrush, much patience. Is there a quicker way, short of dismantling and blasting?
Also, some bolt heads a wee bit rusty, buff and lacquer?

Brass brush attachment for a grinding wheel and/or on a Dremmel will take out some of the effort.
Radio in the background (Danny Baker on 5Live Saturday 09:00-11:00 is a must).

Re: my prevous reply... Danny Baker Show on Five Live. It's terrific fun and the stories on there will resonate with most people who fit into my view of the 1970's CB Four renovation demographic!

To get the paint off I used brass brushes in a drill, a decoke brush for between the fins and finished with fine scotchbrite roloc discs, see here (http://www.skylinesoftware.co.uk/400four13.html) about half way down the page.

Excellent :) rebuild thread Bodd. I love your practical approach to everything and the detailed photos etc. Better reading than most Magazine rebuilds on the 400/4 I have read. Not a standard resto but who cares.. it's your passion and do what suits you, I say.
When I rebuilt my 400/4 in '86 with no internet I never dreamed we would get the brilliant rebuild guides/parts supply and love of that model that we have got now. I used to go into breakers/dealers asking for parts and they looked at me as if I was daft.... bit like if you went in now asking for CB250/400 'Dream' parts .. sorry can't stand that model as it was the supposed Honda 'replacement' for the 400/4.

The internet certainly has made it easier but I still resent being charged £50 for a £5 part, it was a lot better doing a cafe racer than a full resto as I did with my RD because I wasn't stuck to authenticity which increases the price of everything, when I had the problem with the front master cylinder it was a case of £12 for a whole new one off a 400 Super Four or £40 for a new kit for the original, I keep hearing these retro parts vendors bleating about keeping old bikes on the road when a more accurate slogan would be "Fleecing the punters who keep these bikes on the road."
