CB350/400 / Short circuit, anyone?
« on: August 12, 2015, 10:00:46 PM »
Hi,

Well, replaced my fusebox with one off ebay, half the price of DS, and in very good condition. Went for a run and broke down, pushed home a mile and a half, got the old continuity tester out, and the main fuse had popped.
So, now I'm thinking short somewhere.
Is there anywhere that is vulnerable to shorting that would take out the main fuse, or is it just a case of trying every connector and wire until I find it?
Or might there be another reason that the old fusebox fried, and the new fuse popped?

Cheers!

Looking at a lot of work to while away the long winter nights, with Solvol, a toothbrush, much patience. Is there a quicker way, short of dismantling and blasting?
Also, some bolt heads a wee bit rusty, buff and lacquer?

CB350/400 / 400/4 fusebox
« on: August 02, 2015, 08:50:33 AM »
Hi all, well, yesterday my nice wee reliable 400/4 decided to throw a wobbler, and cut out on me all together. Cut a long story short, the fusebox had started to melt, (old and brittle fuse clips) and the ignition fuse fell out, managed to patch it up to get home, but the box is gubbed.

Silvers want nearly sixty quid for a new one, incl vat and carriage. On searching fleabay I notice that there are others that look the same, but are designated for different models (CB500T, CB250RS, etc).

Does anyone know which others are suitable for the 400/4? I can't think that the wiring would be all that different?

thanks a million!

Thank you to all who offered advice and encouragement, the clutch plates were swapped today, two and a half hours start to finish. Gear selection now sweet as a sweetie in a sweetie shop. Happy days!  :D
Took her for a wee run, but a bit of missing going on under load, so next stop, a wee tune up! Then the MOT!   8)

Haha! Yep, I hoped that the cable was the culprit, but, alas, no! So now, i will find some big cushions, and lie her over on her left side, and set about getting yon basket out! I take it that brake cleaner is good for cleaning the plates?

Hi all,

Just bought my teenage dream bike, a maroon 1979 400/4 F2. It's in nice nick, having had a lot of time and money thrown at it previously. However, i find myself in a dilemma, as the clutch is not disengaging, I pull the lever in, put it into first or second, and she stalls. Put it on the stand, and the wheel starts to turn. The engagement is also very clunky (well it would be, if the clutch isn't doing its job!)

Sorry for a first post to be a problem post, but I'm just about to phone the old geezer who sold it to me for my money back, which would be a great shame, if it turns out to be an easy fix?

What do you all think?

(I have adjusted the cable, btw, according to the owners manual that came with the bike.)
