Tricks & Tips / Batterie charging
« on: September 02, 2023, 12:22:50 PM »
Hi every one,

I had problems with my starter motor that didn't want to spin. Bike runs great, kick starter works fine, starter relay clicks ok, starter motor ok , bushes ok. I finally find out the 3 years old Yuasa battery is passing away. I have to ride more often and longer.

As I don't want to kill another battery, I would like to use my little battery charger/maintainer while my garage queen is sleeping, and I would like to plug it on a timer so the thing charges 15/30min per week, on a preventive use.

So here is my question: Can I leave the battery connected to the bike while charging/maintaining? I don't want to screw/unscrew the battery when going for a ride.

Good morning every one!

I would like to thank you all for the knowledge that is shared here on the forum! I'm reading posts nearly every day, and my bike is now running great. Thank you to people that make parts available, like those oil pump join kit that Julie sells on ebay, impossible to source anywhere else and with the help of videos made by that guy that is too old to die young, there is no more oil on my garage floor nor my back tire :o !

Can't wait for the next breakdown  ;D

CB350/400 / Twisted fork
« on: November 14, 2020, 01:18:21 PM »
Hi everyone!

As I was riding on a long straight road, I looked down at the top bridge and handle bar, and it seems that I slightly turn right to go straight.

So back home, I took two aluminium sections and used them as winding sticks. Eyeballing down on them, there is no doubt the wheel is pointing left, (or the handle bar is coming backward on righthand side.)

I turned the tubes in place but nothing happened. I unscrewed the right axle holder and turn the tube, noticed no axial or radial move toward the wheel axle, same thing on the other side. As far as I see tubes are straights. Handle bar is brand new from DSS, no cracks in the bridges.

I unlocked the steering stem nut and top sides screws, tryied to move the thing and everything came in place, but when screwing everything tight the problem is back. Whatever I do.

Any idea someone, something I missed?

What is the way I'm supposed to tighten the top brige? stem first, then the two side screws or the other way?

Thanks for reading

CB350/400 / Why do we adjust camchain tension
« on: February 15, 2020, 12:14:43 PM »
Hi there!

I'm preparing myself to open my engine head cover and put the missing dampeners back in where they are supposed to be, at the ends of the tensioner bow. As i'm thinking about the damages it could lead to if riding to long without them, I struggle to understand why do we have to slacken the bolt to adjust the tension:

A/  As the camchain wears loose, the bow isn't pushing anymore because the pushrod is kept in place by the tensioner bolt?

B/ As I'm riding hard, the cam chain push against the bow that is forcing back the pushrod that stays here, kept in place by the tensioner bolt?

C/ Both?

D/ You can't understand my french gibberish!

help me please,
Cheers!

Hi everyone, i'm 35 years old french, I bought a 77 cb 400 four 6 months ago, 25000km mostly stock.

It's a nice little bike, but the previous owner did very little on it, so I did a big overhaul (thanks to this forum, the us one and the french as well) and replace broken and missing parts with honda parts (david silver, cmsnl :) )
I did a nearly complete tune up (tappets gap, carbs cleaning, brakes, wheel alignment, front shock gaskets, ignition advance and gaps,...)

I just retight the head bolts as gasket have been renew by PO, half a turn was needed, hopefully the oil seepage (dripping?) will magically disappear and the #4 compression will rise a bit. In the same time I unlocked the chain tensionner that was only barely blocked somewhere, and I'm very happy about that :)

a few more to do but the rain stop me for now...

Oh and its my first bike!

Ta everyone!
