Yes, a big phew Nigel, I'm very pleased they came out.

Thanks for the advice, I'll chat to Mark.

Cheers,
Andrew

I know a bit of patina is regarded as preferable to stock shine these days, but that is crazy!

Cheers,
Jerry

Welcome from me too Jerry, nice collection bikes. Good luck finding a complete 750/4 to restore. As James says, a K2 onwards would be easier to find bits for if needed and they will be, however complete it may be advertised as.

Like others have said  you'll find a lot of knowledgeable enthusiasts on here who are only too happy to pass on tips and advice based on years of experience. I know members have helped me at lot since I bought my unrestored 1970 K1 in late 2018.

Personally, I prefer my classic cars and and bikes to reflect their age and show signs of use, although I do like clean and tidy paintwork ::) Incidentally, what classic car are you selling - I've recently sold my 1958 Triumph TR3A (owned for 22 years), luckily it went to my cousin so it stays in the family. :) My 1972 TR6 on the other hand is going nowhere and will be passed onto my two sons when I fall off the perch, hopefully for some time to come yet!

Cheers, Andrew

Phew! Mark managed to get the air screws out yesterday with a combination of heat, effort and an Easyout. :) He'll be giving the carbs another going over next week, after which I'll put them back on and fire the old girl up to see where I'm where I'm at.

Thanks Dave, I'm sure it will come right in the end somehow and the old girl will be on the road again.

You cant beat a Churchill quote in times of need or down a bunker in Uxbridge!  :)

It's just one of those things Nigel, it could just as have easily been me the screw broke for, and probably would have. I dropped the carbs off with Mark yesterday (they still are a black art to me!) and he was surprised at what had happened, particularly as the screws went in easily enough and internally were in great condition reinforcing its low mileage.

With everything else that's happened in the last 2 years, I'm losing a bit of love for the K1. So these photo are for me....

Ted,

Yes, I'm getting into the swing of taking these things off. In fact when I put them back on I'll fix them on with Velcro!

Moorey,

I've tried heat and shock but the brass is so soft the screwdriver just chews it up, so screw extractor time.

Well, after Nigel's (K2-K6) visit a few weeks ago we managed to get my K1 firing on all four pots, although No1 wasn’t firing consistently which turned out to be debris in the pilot jet. But after trying to wind out the Keyster air screws we found they were so tight (all but one wouldn’t budge) the heads just started to chew up and No3 snapped half its head off; they were turned out about one turn and hadn't been set by a gorilla either!  I know they are an interference fit, but..............

I'll be putting a micrometer on the threads and I'm pretty sure they'll be oversized.

Has anyone else come across this issue with Kester air screws?

Anyway, now I've got some free time (an oxymoron for a retiree I know! ::)), the carbs will come off again tomorrow to extract the screws and refit the originals.

Cheers,
Andrew

Well, the lefty BBC started all this panic fuel buying so I guess this is their attempt at humour, but what's in a name.... ;D

Yep, same around here they're queuing up for ages along the roads to get to the garages.  Numpties. ::)

Lovely and sunny here this afternoon, about 23 DegC rode the Z900 to Loomies Moto Cafe at East Meon, plenty of numpties queuing for fuel along the route which amused and irritated me....... ;D / >:(

One day it'll be the K1's turn.

CB750 / Re: K1 start-up after carb rebuild, teething problems.....
« on: September 22, 2021, 06:45:29 PM »
The tea and Hobnobs went down well and the K1 is running on all 4 pots again, sounds much better and the linkages are pretty much where they should be. Although No1 needs its fuel/air mix adjusted (if not all), but in trying to adjust the air screws to see where they had all been set found the Keyster airscrews were such a tight fit that that No3 snapped the anticlockwise half of its head off. So once that little chap and the others are removed the original ones will reused and I'll go from there.

All-in-all, it was a very productive day and good to meet Nigel (K2-K6) who is a really nice guy and I very much appreciated all his help and knowledge (carbs are a black art to me!!) - we soon discovered that we shared many mutual interests, not least Hondas, motocross and F1.

Not sure where the time went (nattering mostly I think?) but it was 4pm before I realised and time to let Enzo the cat out............

I am in need of a No35 Pilot jet if anyone has got a spare one to sell as this will give the options of 40 (currently fitted) and 35 in final tuning.

I'm not grown up enough for dark chocolate, but I do also have milk chocolate digestives, Kit-Kats and chocolate mini rolls but of course these are only here in case my sons pop in........ ;)

That's very-very nice James, I'd been meaning to ask when it was due - there's an active XL250/350 FB group which has some technical downloads and some very knowledgeable enthusiasts on there: https://www.facebook.com/groups/2392585040793889/

Love my XL250 Motosport, it takes more concentration than riding my Z900 especially with knobblies and being slower.... ;D
