Good choice Roy. Took a Trident for a test ride last year, and the dealer made me what I thought was an excellent offer for my Bonneville, so it was rude not to trade it in. Trident is very docile and you can ride it steadily if you're in the mood. Nice and light when getting in and out of shed. It seems to be very torquey right across the rev range. When you give it a handful it is very entertaining and it’s hard not to grin. Careful it doesn’t bring out the hooligan in you! Let us know how you get on.

Been on other forums, for classic bikes, Triumphs, Francis Barnetts other Honda forums and seriously none are even in the same league as this one. Long may it continue.

Hi all. Spotted this earlier when out on the pushbike. Dealer was closed, but looked good from a distance through the window. Anyone on here owned/restored this? Not one of yours James H??!!

Other Bikes / To soak or not to soak...
« on: January 12, 2021, 07:38:15 PM »
This is way off topic for an SOHC forum, but there is such a wealth of knowledge, Ill ask anyway.
I have a push pull type fuel tap on my 1948 Francis Barnett. I am renewing the corks washers that sit above and below the push pull bit, and act as seals. I have researched on line and there are numerous different views. Some say boil the corks before fitting, some say soak in petrol or water. Others say just fit them as they are.
Does anyone have a view on this? Cheers Harold

CB350/400 / Re: Plugs and bogging down troubles

Thanks for your comments. As you say, it would make sense to check the current jets, needle positions etc. If it has been changed from standard, it could be that the adjustment screws have been set to 4 turns to compensate for an increased amount of fuel getting through?  I will check on plugs Julie and also find out exact spec of what was done.
It’s frustrating as once I get to about 3000 revs, it is fine.
Cheers. Harold

CB350/400 / Plugs and bogging down troubles
« on: September 27, 2020, 09:49:39 AM »
I’m after some advice on my 400/4 pls.
I have had some top end work done by a local guy I really trust including a rebore, new pistons, rings etc. It’s run in now and on the whole running really well. It pulls well and revs freely. However, it bogs down when pulling away.  I have pulled the plugs and to me it looks too rich, generally very black and sooty. End of silencer is sooty as well. I took the air filter out to see if increased air into the carbs would help, but it made no difference.
So having read various threads, I thought I’ll adjust the airscews out a tad to lean it up a bit. Checked them and believe it or not, they are 4 turns out already?! In theory it should be running way too lean?

Nurse Julie, I saw your post on the CB400f site re plugs. What was your thinking behind the D7EA plugs? I’m currently using the D8EA.
Can’t get hold of my pal who did the work, as he lives in Belgium and staying there until things settle down with the virus. Any advice gratefully received.
Cheers. Harold.

Think I may have the thread issue with my recently bought DSS silencer as well. Can you confirm the tap size Mattsz?. Also is the conclusion the issue with the gasket is due to the silencer dimensions or the the gasket size? TIA.

Quick blat down to a Goodwood today. One of the cafes has just reopened which is great news as it’s been closed since March. No bikes there, but some interesting cars including an immaculate e type and an RS6 which the owner reckons is close to 800bhp??!! Bonkers!

Similar to your no. 3 Steve, I’ve heard the word PICNIC used in diagnosing IT issues.

Problem In Chair Not In Computer.

Feel free to substitute the word Problem with other appropriate words.........
