Cable routing makes a big difference Also DO NOT lubricate the internals of the original cables as the inner is rubber coated and the outer is nylon lined and oil tends to make them swell into each other and bind

I remember it because my one time boss, Neal Frazer, who owns Frazers of Gloucester bought a K? from Skellerns of Worcester with all the goodies (Tank. bars, sidepanels, etc) removed and had the frame and swingarm nickel plated then built a "New" Dunstal. Two weeks later it started knocking and he had to take just the engine to Skellerns who took over a month to fit new crank, rods and shells also supplying the new oil hose. It may even be in the bulletin list--not sure

There was a batch of oil feed lines fitted from the factory that had an internal "Kink" and restricted flow, as far as I know they should all have been changed under warrantee along with the crank and shells.
If you "clonk" is a bad bearing you will need a different crank and shells as these cranks can not be re ground

The rubbers are inside the primary drive gear on the primary shaft, the big lump the chain drives and has the starter clutch on it, the clanking is usualy the primary chain if the carbs are not in sync

Just working on my mates 1200 trike and all the wings can have a charging problem, you need to check for AC voltage with a multimeter on al three pairs of yellow wires coming from the alternator (3 wires make 3 pairs) all three readings should be the same, the one I'm working on has one pair low voltage even though all three pairs seem to give the same resistance.
The reason they give trouble is that the generator is going flat out all the time and all the regulator does is dump current to earth when the battery voltage is up.
As the engine has to come out to swap the stator is worth checking as soon as you can

Don't be disheartened, when I was at Meads in Glos I stripped and rebuilt a Kawasaki 4 stroke 250 twin that had been sold used due to a LH big end failure, crank went to Alpha in Brum for overhaul and damn me if the RH one went a month later so had to do it all over again under warranty

They have gone as well now, was Clairmant motorcycles(run by an employee of the original nettletons) then they moved to a unit in Hempstead which cost them too much so sold out to Bransons. I haven't been in since they binned the 2-300 keys that I sorted by number for them------new storeman couldn't be bothered to look for customers!!!
