CB500/550 / Re: Rod Knock Question.

If it actually was rod knock you will need another crank with at least one rod as they cannot be reground. Hondas do not do well with petrol in the oil and definitely not with petrol washed bores.

500's do suffer with primary chain wear which can terminally damage the crankcases as there is no tensioner, with the engine already out you are looking at maybe 2 hours to remove the lower case and check properly whilst also checking the selector forks which are also known to wear. You will need a gasket kit and time

I still say check the position of wires and insulators where the blue and yellow wires connect

I think he meant "drown" and i had a ford 3.0 v6 that seized a piston due to a carb diaphragm going and petrol washing all the oil from the relevant bore, checking a rod for twist and bend is easy if you have the correct kit, I have a couple of spare rods, not sure on codes, if you want one ash

Not normal but if you did not heed the manual on cover replacement you may have bent valve stems and/or broken guides

Depends how lucky you feel, 80% of the time you can reuse the other 20% it leaks more oil than the Torrey Canyon

New rubbers should not need sealant but pattern ones sometimes need A VERY SMALL AMMOUNT.

DO READ THE MANUAL CAREFULLY BEFORE FITTING THE COVER or you WILL bend valves

500's only ever need a bit of choke just to start, maybe all of it for 10 seconds in the dark of winter

Whats that out of mate as I know there are gears that fit the 500 but have to be changed as pairs because the new ones have a different tooth profile

That cracked piece is a separate item to the main plate and can be replaced if done carefully
