CB350/400 / Clock Sealing Bands
« on: August 23, 2014, 05:13:20 PM »
Does anyone know where you can get the stainless steel bands that hold the clocks together on the 400? I've seen on fleabay a few times, chrome clock covers with a bolt together sealing bands. These would be ideal.

I came across this meet advertised the other day. I haven't been yet. It's Kineton in Warwickshire, first Thursday of the month. I'll try and make it next month.

CB350/400 / Cam Chain Play
« on: July 08, 2014, 10:25:24 AM »
My newly rebuilt 400 has just clocked up 500 miles on the road. So I decided to do an oil and filter change, re-torque the head bolts and adjust the valve clearances. One thing struck me which I found a bit strange was that I could roll the cam backwards and forwards a bit as there is some slack on the chain. Is this normal? I know on most bike the cam chain would be tight. I've tried slackening off the tensioner bolt with the engine off and running, but no change. It's a new chain and when I rebuilt it, all the tensioner parts looked good.

CB350/400 / Clutch Friction Plates
« on: June 19, 2014, 03:24:16 PM »
I need to buy some new clutch plates for the 400. I am thinking of just going for the cheapest I can find as usual 8). Anyone got any experience to share in this department?

Cheers.

Has anyone used these people before? I'm having a right nightmare with them. They've lost a part I sent them. They claim they have posted it back and it's gone missing in the post but they forgot to send it tracked??! I've paid for the re-chroming and the postage but they won't give me a refund. Just said they will do me another one for free. Big deal  >:(.

CB350/400 / Pots 1&4 Intermitant Spark
« on: April 14, 2014, 02:44:01 PM »
The bike had been running fine. I'd taken it for a few test spins around the block. Booked MOT for a couple of Saturdays ago, went to ride it there and it would only start on two cylinders! :'(. Since, I've found a faulty plug cap but it's made no difference and I've fitted a new ignition coil, points and condensers and cleaned out the carbs (again!) and it still isn't running right on 1 and 4. Do the generator windings, regulator or rectifier have ant effect on the spark? I did change them recently for some which seemed to charge the battery better. Also could any of the wiring in the headlight effect this? I did have to remove the headlight to refit the parking bulb, as it had fallen out, the evening before. I have looked in there since but looks OK.

Another thing I just remembered. The points for cylinders 2&3 are sparking quite a lot, whereas I cannot see any sparking on the points for 1&4.

Cheers guys in advance.

CB350/400 / Rear Wheel Cush Drive

My rear wheel cush driver rubbers are rock hard and have play on them. Has anyone tried replacing these? Looks nigh on impossible!

CB350/400 / Rear Wheels Spacers
« on: March 01, 2014, 05:52:12 PM »
I am just rebuilding the refurbished rear end and have noticed the rear wheel spacers are different lengths. Which way round do they go? Neither the Haynes manual or the parts list seem to help.

Misc / Open / Hammerite Smooth Rattle Cans
« on: February 27, 2014, 11:06:32 AM »
What is going on with Hammerite?! I used to find it the stuff to use for a quick, thick coating of tough gloss black.
They seem to have changed the formula though. The last couple of cans I have had been next to useless.
It is so thin you need at least 5 coats on everything. Is is so runny it moves away from peaks and edges. And it takes forever to dry. I put a couple of coats on some small bits for eBay yesterday evening. Still very sticky this morning  >:(.

CB350/400 / Are Pattern Condensers Any Good?
« on: January 16, 2014, 04:09:32 PM »
Hi guys,

I'd just like to get a general concensus of opinion on if it is OK to use patter condensers, or should I stick to genuine.
Thanks in advance.

CB350/400 / Odometer Renovation
« on: November 14, 2013, 11:56:15 AM »
I stripped both my clock yesterday. Does anyone have any tips for whitening up the white reels on the mileometers? Mine are quite discoloured. They are going to look a bit strange with the rest of the clock looking like new. The white numbers on the black reels look fine.

Cheers
Steve

CB350/400 / Carb #2
« on: November 05, 2013, 12:10:27 PM »
I think I've finally found the problem with my bike not running on pot 2 at idle. I've purchased an ultrasonic bath for a fourth attempt at clearing this issue which did get some crud out. However on a final blow through with carb cleaner before assembling, I discovered this hole on the carb (see pic attached). It runs straight through to the pilot system. I've checked carb #3 and this one is blanked off. I guessing when I've blown it through with compressed air I've dislodged something I shouldn't have :-\.

Can anyone confirm this should be blanked off before I fill it in.

CB350/400 / Has Anyone Tried Dave Silver Float Valves?
« on: October 03, 2013, 12:10:18 PM »
I see 16011-329-004P is half the price of a genuine Honda float valve kit but I remember the 400 Rebuild site on BTInternet saying avoid pattern carb parts as they are more trouble than they are worth. I know these fit most SOHC models but I had to still the question somewhere.

As the genuine kits are SO expensive, I am very tempted by these. Do they work well? I'm suffering a bit of leakage at the moment :-\.

CB350/400 / Setting Ignition Timing With a Strobe Light
« on: August 29, 2013, 03:40:29 PM »
Hi guys,

Today's question is when using a strobe light, what revs and timing marks should I use.

Regards
Steve
