CB350/400 / More Wiring questions
« on: August 25, 2013, 02:21:53 PM »
Hi all,

Three questions today.

I wondered if anyone could identify what these two wires are for coming out of the loom near the horn. I am presuming they are not for the horn and one is the wrong colour. One is black and one green with a yellow stripe. I don't actually have a working horn to test that. Picture attached.

Secondly there is a horizontal mounting bracket the other side of the frame to the horn mount. Is anything supposed to be on there on a 1976 UK bike? Picture attached.

Thirdly I have some spare wires  :-\. Coming off the loom into the main collection under the tank I have two female connectors with nothing connected a Light Blue with a White stripe and an Orange with a White stripe. In the headlight shell I have the same two spare coloured wires and a third one Green with a Red stripe.

All ideas greatfully received.

Cheers
Steve

CB350/400 / CB400 Wiring?
« on: May 15, 2013, 08:09:33 PM »
Hi,
I'm getting this 400 back together nicely but I'm a bit confused on this bit of wiring. I have this clump of wires hanging down in the airbox area with a rubber sheath around it. I assume from the position, the point wires go into the corresponding colour connections, but what connects to the green and black wire?

Misc / Open / Another Polishing Question
« on: May 04, 2013, 01:21:45 PM »
Hello again.

Please take a look at the generator cover below which I have started polishing up. I've been all over it with a range of wet emery paper grades and polished it with a 1st cut mop and brown compound. The trouble is I can't get rid of this corrosion/mottling. Any ideas anyone? Maybe it's not possible.

Cheers

CB350/400 / Braided Sleeving
« on: April 10, 2013, 12:33:02 PM »
Does anyone know where I can get some braided sleeving which looks like the origonal? I am talking about the sleave on the wires from the points plate, that runs round the clutch housing. Mine is split and it appears those wire are not available as a separate part. So I am thinking of repairing mine instead of forking out for a complete new plate kit. I have found some places selling black but not the white/silver/ocra or what ever it is supposed to be.

Cheers all
Steve.

CB350/400 / David Silver Chainguard
« on: March 18, 2013, 02:00:14 PM »
Hi,

Has anyone tried or seen the Davis Silver pattern chainguard? Mine looks good nick but has been stove enamelled. I was going to get it chromed but the cheapest quote I've had is £70. So now thinking of going for a new pattern part.

Can condensers be tested off the bike, by resistance or similar?

Misc / Open / Polishing Mops
« on: February 20, 2013, 11:52:46 AM »
Hi Guys,

I'm just wondering when you should replace your polishing mop. I have a 150mm Screwfix mop on my bench grinder. It seems like a well made strong piece of kit with lots of stitching in it and works well. I thought it would just slowly wear down. I hasn't but the edge of it does look like it's made of aluminium now. Does that matter?

Currently working on my first restoration project. Engine is all done (pic attached). Carb refurbish currently in progress. The plan is for my wife to ride the bike in the summer before I undertake stage 2 next Autumn/Winter. That being the cosmetics.
Enjoying it so far despite the odd surprise on the way.

Now a VJMC member. I'd like to meet up with similar minded in the area in the summer.
