Rebuilding a 500 for John he was sold a "complete" Athena gasket set.
Now not in the set are the oil pump to crankcase O rings, which Julie can supply but more important you dont get what i call the pontefract cakes(the US insist on calling them pucks), these are only available seperately from Honda and are now £5 EACH plus vat and post thus adding about £30 to the cost of the set.
This makes it, to me, worth shopping around and checking prices plus contents before purchase.

Thought I was going to have to fork out for these one was missing when I started stripping the engine. Much as I have found elsewhere it was just sloppy work because two spare ones were loose in the cavities of the cylinder head. £5 each plus vat and postage is a bit nose bleeding…..

I never used to renew them back in the 70/80s, just kept reusing them, never had a leak. I renewed them on my last engine restoration but TBH only because everything else was getting renewed at the same time. If they are still supple I'd say use them again, in the very unlikely event they do leak it's not a massive job to replace them, no new gaskets needed.

On the 500/550 yes Ken but 750 uses same between com towers and head and that is engine out job.
-
If they are for John, I've a set of pucs here Bryan. I'll send John a PM.

I've an NE brand set for a 500 and another for 550 here and as usual they are in the 500, but not the 550. Always been my experience.
Check Fowlers for dealer price, £4.90 inc VAT, and they are OOS.

I was aware of that Bryan but as the threads in the 500/550 section I presumed it was that engine we were talking about, good point though, maybe others didn't know that and always worth pointing out stuff like that.
Another reason the 500 is better than the 750 ;D ;D

Fowlers are oos cos i bought them and when you get to checkout that is not inc vat even though it says so. Needed other bits that were missing anyway and they also had those

I have same problem after buying engine gasket kit from DS.
Assume there are pattern parts available for less than £5 each?
Anyone know a supplier?

The pucks were included in my NE gasket set from Silvers for my 650 I got last year.
