CB500/550 / CB500 four K0 ????

I don't know if any one has seen this on ebay but, what is it ?. The seller recons it is a 500K0 but, the headlight brackets, right hand handlebar switch are K1 and one of the pictures show the helmet holder at the front ? The K0 helmet holder is part of the seat catch so, it looks to be a 500K1 frame .

Is this someone trying to pass it off as a K0 or the seller just doesn't know what the bike is ?

The replica ones that Sliver sells are, HJ-Lex ( TSK ) and TSK supply cables to Honda  ;)

Did come in pairs in boxes in the UK. Also came in singles. Here is one dated 1988

Would like to order a data plate for my 750 K2, first registered in the UK, June 1973. The Chassis # is CB7502077106. I appreciate the UK models may not have had a data plate, but the bike is now in Australia where I believe they do.

Can any either tell me, or advise me how to ascertain the date of manufacture?


There was no data / VIN plate on a UK 750K2 or on a 500 four . A VIN plate has a part number but, there is no part number for a UK K2 .
You don't need a VIN plate in OZ as the bike never had one originally  ;)

I like that one. You can not bend steel, i will remember that next time i take a rod of steel out of the furnace and it starts to bend on its own weight  :o

They are not for your bike and are a totally different indicator altogether  ;)

On the front only. The back stems are totally different  ;)

I have just had the same problem with a ND tachometer. Sent it for a service and found,  The damper was the problem and it appears that either fluid it contained was solidified or there was a tiny piece of grit in the damper.
He  flushed it with cleaning fluid and ultrasonically cleaned it a couple of times before refilling.

Thanks for that. They both look like the one I now have so maybe something is out of shape. I'll take another look at it again over the weekend.

I think it would be the mounting bracket had been bent due to have longer forks. This is very common in the USA were, they extended the fork to try to make them look more like a chopper.

How much too short is it ? I have one somewhere that has been extended by about an inch.

I fitted these to Julie's 550 mongrel some years ago. Comes with a universal kit with is a bit of a pig to fit but, once on are fine >>>

Dont know if T is same but easy to check on cmsnl, i think Trigger will confirm 750 will fit but is very slightly different as 500 has a pressed raised bit on the horizontal black bit

The UK 500 four and the UK CB750 K2 are the same part and part number Bryan. I did have a lookie at CMS but, they only list 500T's for the USA market mate  ;)

Out of interest, any thoughts why Honda would have chosen an Anodised finish for the handlebar ‘furniture’…. is it simply that cheap / efficient powder coats were not avail and their standard black was not DOT 3 resistant?

Then again, the instrument casings, bridge fork top and idiot lights binnacle were painted…

The anodised finish was resistant to brake fluid and thin but, not resistant to the sun over a period of time. You can't powder coat as it is too thick  ;)
Can be just painted with a caliper paint but, use silicone brake fluid  ;)

The UK CB750K2 was the same part and i am not sure but, Bryan J may be able to confirm if the UK CB500T was the same and is much easier to find.  ;)

Looks good apart from the routing of the brake pipe from the M/C and the M/C cap . Why did they not re anodize the master cylinder. It looks like it is off a USA bike with that sun bleach look.
The front number plate is also incorrect for a UK bike but, near on impossible to find the correct one.

It maybe my old eyes but, is that engine number starting with a 21***** ?  A UK 500K1 from 1972 should be 20*****

I'll look in to the routing and the cap - and yes it is bleached

If it starts with 21 then it is a CB500 K2 engine or a UK CB500 K1 1974 / 1975 unit.
On these early SOHC's the first two VIN numbers match the engine. CB500K0 is 10*****, a UK CB500K1 for 1972 and 1973 is 20***** and UK 1974 and 1975 is 21*****
