And yet CMS quote that part number as 4.8 x 14.5 not 15. Odd.

There is a theory the spindle were hard chromed but seeing how they rust etc it's not looking likely. My experience of hard chrome is that it's virtually indestructible, had my fork stanchions done years ago now and they are totally unmarked after many thousands of miles. I had mine hard chromed, cost me £22.50. Maybe Philpotts could help out.  Mine was done at Dynasurf in Sandbach. Normal bright chrome isn't recommended, I suspect it wouldn't fit afterwards, even my hard chromed one was a tight fit. Plus I'd imagine it would rust pretty quick.

Try the seal that is fitted to the CB500/550 tacho drive Ted. Almost certain it's the same. I got one out the other week, hooked it out with a hooked scribe and of course the little bugger flew across the garage and has successfully resisted all efforts to find it. It should be marked with size if you can get one out.

The tacho drive seal is 4.8 x 14.5 Ted. So maybe not

Always lube the bars myself. Usually silicon grease or oil.

I was thinking on this last night Ted.

Couple of suggestions.

The bolt head is 1m wider, so 1/2mm either side, just grind off a small part of the flat nearest the ring, it's a stainless bolt so it wouldn't rust.

Fit the bolt the other way round so the nut is on that side. There are stainless 12mm headed nuts out there, I have some.

If you fit new guides be prepared to have to cut the valve seats to match, Trigger has the correct equipment to do this. TBH it's best left to a professional.

Shame, the 500 ones are 100mm. I have some of those.

I'll see what I can find Ted, might have something suitable.

Just had this thought whilst seeing the finished part but have you considered whether the flanges on the hub that the new carrier uses are strong enough for the forces generated by braking?

Sorry if you’ve covered this before as I’m on an IPad in bed and it’s slow to load pages so going through 14 pages isn’t an option.

What length are the bolts Ted?

Bottom end chatter, most likely primary chain banging around, a carb sync may help that. Is the clutch basket shimmed out?

Rear brake lever is far to high BTW.

Top end, did you inspect the rocker faces? I'd recheck the clearances as well, they can change as the head beds down.
