Would anyone out there like to design us a logo?
There's a space available up there top left (were it currently says "Honda-SOHC").
Transparent (.png) files are best as the background colour of the site theme shows through. This is important as I may move it to a colour-graduated part of the page.
All ideas welcome!

Nice ideas there Oddjob, but remember the group is about ALL SOHC Hondas, including the humble but incredible C50 and all others up to the 750s ;D
-
Probably because they never seem to go wrong! ;D I have several old SOHC bikes, including my SS50 from my teenage years, looks a total wreck, but still starts and runs, my much loved and well thrashed CB 175, still reads 80+ on the speedo, and is pressed into service when the roads are icy ;D
-
I didn't even realise this forum was for all Honda SOHC, I've got a couple of singles and a twin but have only posted about the 550. An end on cam and pair of rockers with a wing behind would cover everything, but I'm no artist.
-
I might be up for the challenge, what's the available pixel size?
-
Anything really. Minimum 160x45 which is the size of the text box there right now. Anything bigger and I will just expand the light blue area. I can lose the Simple Machines logo too so it could go right across the top (max 1000px though for those with 1024 screens)
A nice big hi-res that I can reduce would be nice - then we can play with style/size until it looks right.

It's not really a logo (!) but I've always loved this - which is SOHC specific (scroll down to the 'merde merde merde' pciture. Might not cover C50's etc though..

What do you think of this then guys?
This is only a small version as an example........
I can change the colours, border etc
caters for all single over head cams and is in the HONDA font
The Single O being the Cam and the valves make up the H ...clever eh?

and heres some earlier workings, before I settled on the oval

None of these including the oval have had their backgrounds set to transparent but I can continue on with any that you guys like.......
If you would like to see the oval in different colour schemes or a different shape
just let me know.

No comments anyone? :(
-
Sorry, it reminds me of an Esso sign or something. Lidl?
-
comments good or bad most welcome....
the background doesn't have to be an oval, I can concentrate on a circle if you prefer, I'll do some more varients if the design is acceptable, no problem.
As regards to the O as a cam shape with little lobes I did try it in an earlier sketch and it didn't look right at all, plus it made the design too busy.
I settled on the Honda font because the letter O was oval like a cam which did look better.
In fact the letter O came first followed by finding a font! it just so happens the Honda font contained the oval shaped letter O. so I killed two birds with one stone.

I think it's fairly good - I'm noy 100% sure about the circle and coulor ways part of things but I do like it.

How about we superimpose the text over something like this?

Ok
How about embossed letters on steves background.....
Something like this.......
obviously this is just work in progress, letters need to be outlined etc colours changed perhaps, all that sort of thing, but don't want to spend hours do something which nobody wants, so this is just a prototype, I will need steve to send me a larger version of the background anyway...
as before comments welcome.............
Ps the H shown as valves is stylised
I did try having the valves pointing towards the C instead of away, but it didn't look right,
i.e the overall column of letters doesn't look correct if brought visually narrower at the base.

Can you do them embossed but transparent?
-
Sorry, it reminds me of an Esso sign or something.
Since its dedicated for vintage motorcycles, I think that a 'classic' look shall be prioritised... ;)
But I agree that colors like 'nuke-green' or 'high-viz-yellow' should be avoided...
I personally rate the black/white as well as the red/blue on plain white top.
Just smoothen the font edges and its perfect; might even steal the draft and create my own stickers for my bikes with it 8)
Steve's suggestion of superimposing it on an actual photo appears a bit 'too busy' in my opinion, the lettering gets lost over a multicolored background.
And as a side note: I like the design of the SOHC FOUR patch (as featured in the other 'virtual pub'), very 'classic' with that vintage Honda Wing...

Looking at all the versions so far the one I keep going back to and is growing on me is the first (oval surround) one, Nice and simple, I think that is inportant in a logo. I'd also stay clear of using the honda wing logo, copyright wise they can be a wee bit tetchy, plus I tend to assosiate it with the younger bikes for some reason - not sure why, prbably because it's on a few of them.
-
Here is my take on it - just a sketch as I don't have any software but for me it's about old bikes and style and it could encompass any bike from C50 to CB750.
