Has that had a turbo fitted?

I don't think that's Alex bike as he still hasn't sorted the indicators out yet to my knowledge. Plus it's a K3 and Alex has an F2.

That should fit. Both the smaller and larger rear lights are spaced the same bolt hole wise Bryan so they'll both fit.

I've got a brand new chrome one somewhere.

DS has them both in stock Roo.

The ones you can fit all the same are black shells as they are the thickest shell so will wear to the right size so long as you run the engine in carefully.

If the cases are all B's then you've really only ever had either greens or browns fitted. If the crank had a 1 it was a green, if it was a 2 it was a brown.

I'd just fit all browns, they are the slightly bigger shell and so long as you run it in correctly you'll be fine.

Same applies to the rods, only greens or browns for a No2 rod. Fit all browns again.

CMS do but they do show the US 4 hole version also being fitted to the 500K. So it's more than possible the holes match up, it's the design of the plate holder that differs.

The Made in Japan isn't painted BTW, just checked. However you could paint it if you fancied it. Wouldn't look out of place IMO.

You can see the pins on this pic.

There's also a US chrome version in both 3 hole and 4 hole.

The alternator isn't that bad. However unlike the 550 you had before the inner part is separate from the cover itself. Most try and lever it off when repairing/restoring the cover but that tends to buckle them as they are quite thin. If you want to restore it you need to remove the cover itself, turn upside down and you'll see 3 small holes, these are where the pegs go that the outer cover uses to secure itself, use a small pin punch and tap them out a little at a time, don't do one entirely or you'll most likely bend the cover, a little bit on one, then the next etc. There are small metal clips inside the holes, these can rust and break up when you remove the cover. Be prepared to replace them if needed. You can restore the plate in situ but it's best done on a flat surface IMO.

I can't remember if the Made In Japan should be painted black as well, might be.

At least the cover doesn't show signs of being thrown down the road, most have.

Dremels have moved on a lot since most of you used one last. Cutting wheels for instance are very robust now. Get the Speedclic ones and you can cut a large amount of metal with just one disc.

Wire brushes are better but still not great TBH.

The flap wheels and the abrasive discs you can get now are a god send, grinding stones are good so long as you buy the orange looking type and genuine Dremel.

A Dremel Ted is like a very small hand portable drill, the 4300 for instance has a 3 jawed chuck which makes changing end tools exactly the same as a drill.

It's one of those tools that you wonder how you managed without it once you find what it's good at. For restoring alloy parts of bikes I don't think there is anything better.

The trouble with using things like a bench grinder (and I have 3 of those) is that it's a sledgehammer approach to a toffee hammer problem, they are far too big for small intricate items like castings.

Most of the 500 side stands will be bent. People set off with the stand down (we've all done that) first left hander it hits the floor, if you're lucky it flicks it up but more often it stands the bike up. This causes a very slight bend in the stand, the more it gets hit the worse it gets. Look at it carefully and see if you can see a slight bend.

To straighten it you'll need to get it cherry red hot and for that you really need an oxy torch, Mapp gas just doesn't do it. If you don't straighten it you'll find it will hit the No1 exhaust pipe causing a dent.

What about this

Considering what you get that's a decent deal.

Quite a lot of ingrained oil and dirt on that carb top. Plus a fair amount of damage, the scratches and such aren't too bad to get rid of but the dents on the upper edge can be hard to either smooth out or get rid of.

If you try and buff it out the oil ingrained will surface after a short while and make the finish look like it's water damaged, to get a decent result you must keep going down until the alloy is a uniform grey in colour, Then you can polish it.

If you've got a Dremel it's easy to get some decent results.

Just bought 2 new Dremels in the last few days, getting quite a collection of them. The new ones are the Dremel 4300 and they are a big improvement of my old 4000s.

E18 page of Bryans copy of the CB500 parts book Steve. Part 2 should read 1 required not 2 as Honda have listed it.

Well that's new. DS having some centre ones in, they have not had any for years. They must be a recent addition from some stock he's just acquired in the US where they are easier to find.

The left one however isn't the right type, no idea why he's put a 550 selector picture on there and the part number is wrong.

Found the clutch inner, it cleaned up ok TBH. All the bolt towers are intact. However it does has some alloy corrosion on it, nothing that would prevent it working IMO but they are fairly common so I can't believe someone else hasn't got a better one. I gave a complete 500 clutch away a couple of years ago, I had quite a few lying around. However I just scrapped a load of parts so some might be have been in that lot.

I'd buy the DS centre selector, I'll hang onto mine.
