if you go on the U.S. SOHC site and find 'Hondamans' site you'll see he does a 'gas cap hinge kit'.  it consists of two stainless threaded pins, washers and acorn nuts, only $2.50,dead easy to fit.

when rebuilding my 400f from various boxes i found the grotty fuse box. i had two choices, a new one  from DSS or a blade version from Hondaman in the U.S. , in fact they are the same price even with shipping from the U.S. ( import duty to pay though!)  The blade fuses are readily available just about everywhere

On the Yamiya site, under the option parts section, they list a 'ignition voltage stabilizer'.  Presumably made by Pamco, anyone any idea what it actually does?

CB350/400 / mileage

thinking of getting another bike. one i've looked at shows a reasonable mileage for its age. the mileage digits on the odometer are up and down, all over the place.  am i right in thinking that its a sign of ' clocking', interested in your thoughts.

Info in the letters page in this months OBM, in ESSO's website f.a.q it appears there is no ethanol content in their premium grade fuel, alas Devon and Cornwall  are the exception.I appreciate its irrelevant to those geared up to accept ethanol, but interesting nonetheless

with just the paperwork left my 77 400f is ready to return to the road after 23 years, one little problem, the side panels refuse to go over the bottom rubber grommets. applied rubber grease, still no joy. seems if i do force them on, i'd never get them off again. i do'nt want to break them , any tips?

CB350/400 / fuel
« on: July 16, 2018, 09:19:25 PM »
my VW has its turbo turned up a bit and is advisable to use top fuel, with supermarket petrol to be avoided like the plague.  i'm finishing an 18 month rebuild of a 400F and its ready to return to the road for the first time for 23 years.  My question, is any brand of petrol more friendlier to 40 year old carbs than any other, with all the Ethanol problems. I know i won't need the 97 octane.

Hi Rob. i'm still locked into £sd and Feet and inches, but i read the article to mean backing off the adjuster one full turn gives you exactly the 0.05mm gap, as i said i'm of a certain age and easily confused!!!

on a 400/4, Rick Parkington's rebuild in classic Bike, he states the thread pitch of the adjuster is 0.05mm, so a single full turn of the adjuster moves it by half a millimetre or 20 thou. with the crank set to the tappet setting position, wind the adjuster down until it touches the valve and then reverse by one full turn.  two full turns equate  to  1mm or 40 thou.    not sure of other bikes thread pitch.  I' m new to honda's, i'm just posting what i read, ready to be corrected!

CB350/400 / Re: dynatek on a 400f
« on: May 19, 2018, 11:00:35 AM »
i bought the bike as a rolling chassis with a professionally rebuilt engine and carbs,i have put the dynatek ignition on and with plugs 3 and 4 earthed to the head there are sparks. i now need to statically time it to be as accurate as possible to then get the bike to a chap to fine tune it for me.  i'm told a headlight bulb is far too powerful and could damage the dyna electrics.  as you might guess i'm not exactly an expert on these matters!      kevski     where will i find the sun site you refer to?

CB350/400 / dynatek on a 400f
« on: May 18, 2018, 11:24:19 AM »
after 18 months slowly reassembling my 400f i am nearly there. a dynatek ignition system came with the bike, after fitting new loom the power for the dynatek is taken from the black/white coil leads.  i need now to time it statically, bodged up a headlight bulb with two wires, sooo where do i connect the wires to, starting with the blue 1/4 connection?  dynatek instructions seem a bit vague (to me!)

thanks all, just one more question, will i be able to test the indicators from just the battery, or will i need to run the engine which i have'nt fired up yet, not sure how much juice is needed to work the indicators.

CB350/400 / 400f indicators
« on: May 02, 2018, 05:08:03 PM »
hi all, coming to the end of a twelve month rebuild of my 400f.  battery installed, electrics seem to be good. in the many boxes that my bike came in are two indicator relays, both appear to be in good nick.  one has 3 connectors with the letters L, P, X beside them, the other relay has 2 pins with the letters L, B,   the loom has black, green, grey. i presume the 2 pin is self earthing. ok, so what colour goes where?  after the trials and tribulations of the last year, a simple question, but its got me beat!

CB350/400 / Re: cb400f horn
« on: July 18, 2017, 06:32:10 PM »
Thanks for the reply, i'm still a while away from the electrics going '"live " so its just matching wire colours for the moment. At least i know now the horn wiring. The "birds nest" where the wires meet has a female bullet connection to accept 4 black wires, at present it has 3 black wires from the R/H handlebar control and one from the L/H , so no room for the horn black lead. It seems the obvious place for the connection. An suggestions?
