Quick question all, I’m needing a glue that is fuel resistant but will glue metal to metal…………epoxy resin??

I've used JB weld on a vintage bike tank that was leaking at the fuel tap spigot and also on a carb, seems good stuff.

Cheers Skoti, I’ll have a look

Have a look at Belzona products as well.
-
JB Weld is fine as long as you aren't expecting too much of it strength wise.
-
What are you trying to stick Roo?
-
Loctite do an epoxy metal glue. A mate has used it to good effect...
-
Hi Roo,
Depends what kind of joint you will be glueing (behave yourselves at the back, not that kind of joint)
I have used proper Araldite (not rapid) to good effect - parts of the wings on Buccaneers were held on with it. If the joint will be subject to peel or torsion forces then you might have to rethink but tensile and shear forces are usually fine - up to a limit of course.
Nowt to do with owt but I have just returned from a 1350 mile trip on my new 350 Forza at 96.5mpg and I was never in the wrong gear 8)

Worked in the Aircraft industry 40+ years ago. Popular metal to metal adhesive was Araldite AV121. Never seen it for sale in small quantities. Grey in colour when set.
Very good glue providing surfaces are very, very clean.

I’ve modified the fuel tank in the 550 as I can’t get a decent lock substitute that looks alright and welded a plate to the underside of the boss on the tank to accept a bonnet pin for a push button catch. I need to glue a heftier spring to the pin to pop the flap up enough. It just need needs to stay there so apart from compression it’s under not much stress. Can’t really think of another method to get it to stay put. I’m just revisiting fit so I can get t off for paint as I’m back to the states next month for 8 weeks. Could you not drill a v small hole in the shaft and glue a pin in low down? Or Am I missing the point?
-
It’s bonkers hard stainless Matt, I’ve a couple of new ones coming in anticipation of the inevitable
I’ll see how bullet proof they are when they get here tmrw. Good idea though hadn’t thought of that, I only know they’re made of Hardium as I re cut the thread in it as it was a USA job and was in silly measurements.

If really hard, try a carbide drill - I've got some suitable.....

I’ll let you know Matt, cheers mate.
How’s yer paw? Are you back to some hardcore pointing yet?

Roo, I was thinking of doing the same thing on my F1as it would appear a PO used a slotted screwdriver to open the flap, where did you get the push button?
I've been reading through your build and noticed you mention Sparsholt, I managed a Maidenhead Aquatics branch for years and we used to recruit staff from the college as well as send staff there. I'd imagine you'd know quite a few people that I do.
-
Hiya, more than likely it’s such a small industry. I’m off to the states to manage a koi farm for a couple o months again for Neil Hatdy Aquatics. A massive supplier both over here and there.
I studied at sparsholt and taught there for a bit, ave days
I’ve got a spare pusher thingy I think, I’ll have a look later, you can have it FOC. I won’t need another

Should end up looking something like this when done. (Spring and pin not in)
Thought it would be the tidiest and most unobtrusive. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230925/f7884fed4e4105a36cfe019745cfe042.jpg)

Looks very neat that. Thanks that would be great if you have one left over, send me your PayPal details.
I've visited Neil Hardys years ago on a fish buy, probably getting on for 20 years ago now.

Hardcore pointing!! ;D ;D ;D
It's much better. Nerve damage was like having electric shocks and that has all gone. Going a little stir crazy as no workshop time etc etc.
Mind you, my digital music library is looking a lot better after a clean up....will PM you...
-
Oh Roo, what have you done. Your bike is not original and that means it's worth nothing. Have you learnt nothing being on here. It must have Japanese air in the tyres, inside the original tyres as well, that petrol cap should be zinc plated not chromed. Now you've just devalued the bike. You'll never sell that mate. ;D ;D ;D ;D

I know I’m such a fool
It’s not chrome, that’s pure elbow and a million sheets of 2500

What's with the single central clock Roo?
-
It’s a tacho predominantly and a digital speedo underneath.
All the idiot lights are all built in too. Just tidier and fits the look I was going for with it. I had no clocks at all to start when I got the heap so I had Carte Blanche.
