Yes Paul, the tolerance on mine will be the same as Trig did on yours.....tight. I know your engine is running as sweet as a nut since Trig did the work for you so I have no doubt mine will be the same, spot on. Maybe my small hands and fingers will be just right for getting the rings in, I'm hoping so anyway

Keep up the excellent thread. As the bores/pistons/rings are the only major replacement parts. What does Trig advise for oil and running in etc

If I had my way I would take the advice of the Drag Boys and take it down the 1/4 mile absolutely screaming it's arse off ................................. or I could pootle around at 20 mph for the next 10 years and end up with the pistons in the same state they were in when I started . But Trigs running in advice on this engine is 10w40 Mineral oil, ride it mid range revs, get it very hot with lots of cool air blowing around the barrels and change the oil at 500 miles.

Are you doing it Julie
Ha, not on your Nellie Paul. I am staying right away from all the machine work, that's Trigs department. I can just imagine the reaction from him if I got it wrong or messed up or broke a boring bar or whatever it's called. No, let those that know what they are doing......do it !!!
I'm getting quite excited now as this is the last of the machine work, then I can just re assemble the top end. I have already re built all the individual components for the top end so just a case of fitting the pistons/ rings and finish building up from there.
Does trigg do rebores

You really can't see much through the sump of a CB400/4, definitely not the bit you're trying to see !!!

If you want a pic of what you can see with the sump off, let me know as mine is still off at present

Not possible to see anywhere near the cam chain or horseshoe through the sump as everything you need to see is right at the front of the engine, nowhere near the sump.

My adjuster was jammed which I didn't realise until I stripped the engine. Even with this I only had the most minute cam chain rattle at idle. Although you don't really want to split the cases, I think it would be prudent to do so, then you can see what the problem is. You can then also fit an endless cam chain instead of a soft link.

I'm really sorry to hear that Roy. Why can't people do like most of us have to, get off their arses and work hard to buy something they need instead of pinching someone else's property and in your case, your livelihood. Good luck.

These washers are bloody expensive. For the 10 copper and the 2 Dowty it works out at £46 a set.

The copper ones on my engine are pure copper so I annealed them by heating to red hot then plunging in water. It seemed to work ok as I don't have any leaks (yet)
That's interesting as mine are copper covered steel. I wonder, as yours is an F1 and mine is a F2, if they changed them between models?
