I once bought a 400four that needed a lot doing to get it going.  After a week of fettling,  it was time to test it.  The battery wasn't up to much in the way of spinning the engine so a mate offered to assist.  My road had bit of a downhill slope to it, which helped.
Sitting astride the bike, in 2nd, clutch in, my mate pushing for all his worth, I let the clutch out and.....
Huh?  What?
I hadn't refitted the chain 😀

Ha, that made me laugh!

If the shaft is brass, then the 6BA is OK but too tight for s/steel, so I will order a M3x0.5 LH tap to do the job!

+1  for KayFast

I also use Westfield https://www.westfieldfasteners.co.uk/ - great site to navigate and quality products but not the cheapest.
Stig Fasteners is also pretty good https://a2stainless.co.uk/

I know this is a VERY old thread but has anyone got any suggestions for the colour & type of paint to use when creating the Honda seat logo?

Thanks, Kent400. I have a 6BA l/h tap and will see if that works, if not, I'll source a 3mm one.

CB350/400 / Speedo trip reset shaft thread size?
« on: May 27, 2022, 05:59:35 PM »
I now have my rather grubby Rev and Speedo slocks dismantled to the point where I can lavish a bit of care on them. The trip rod on my speedo is made of aluminium and is so badly corroded that is bends with ease. Does anyone know the size of the L/H thread that this attaches to the mechanism? 3mm x 0.5 x LH?? I may have some BA equivalents somewhere and so will knock up a s/steel rod to replace this corroded part once I have the size.

Yes, that's the one! And of course it's diluted, so it goes a long way.....

I'm not at home at the moment, so can't tell you exactly which fluids I use. However, there are 2 that I use and they are bought from these guys.

One I use is a carb cleaner and the other is a de-oxidising one.
They are very helpful people.

DSS says:
"Sorry, we are unable to confirm if this strainer is ethanol proofed but Honda has made this part for many years supplying it to  countries all over the world using all types of fuel ."

I'll just go with the flow (pun) and order a replacement....

I use JIS screwdrivers with JIS screws. Philips drivers will not sit correctly in a JIS screw and the risk of rounding of the screw is very great at high torque. Just my opinion and minor experience.
Perhaps I should buy a set - you can't have too many screwdrivers!!  ;)

Whilst talking about tools, I wonder if anyone actually uses JIS screwdrivers or just Philips. I tend to use the latter with no issues but I would be interested to know. BTW, I have more screwdrivers than is healthy but no JIS ones!

Has the tank been lined?
No, not lined and fairly rust free - the black 'gunge' is the remains of the strainer washer that once had two holes!
