Title: Oil Gallery Tube
Post by: McCabe-Thiele (Ted) on April 13, 2021, 05:38:33 PM
Whilst cleaning the mains oil gallery noticed both ends of the tube insert  were slightly scuffed / damaged.

Not sure what has caused it unless it was made like that - seems unlikely would not have thought the end cap would reach that far.

Probably happened during machining, as long as no loose bits it will be fine

Ted, is the crackcase cracked to the r/h side of your hand or is it just a gouge mark?

Just a photo mark caused by the shadow of a raised casting ridge, no cracks only a few casting marks here & there.

Probably due to low lighting it appears as a dark crack wider in the miiddle this is caused by the raised surface being uneven causing a shadow - I have double checked there isn't even a mark as such just the raised section on the casing it actually is more like a ridge.

I've removed the potentially loose bits and the debris I made in the process. I used to have a selection (3) of bearing scrapers from back in the day when you hand finished white metal bearings probably on the likes of an Austin 7 - they were my late fathers from when he worked for  RR /Bentley at Crewe in the 1940's. They had rusted a little over the decades so about 20 years ago I threw them away - would have been an ideal tool. Last used by me to free off a set of camshaft bearings in an A series engine circa 1967.

Oh the things I gave away or threw away over the decades that I could use now - of course that was safe in the knowledge that I would never need them again - how wrong I was - I understand Hoarders now. lol
