Title: Cylinder 2 not running (CB750F2)
Post by: royhall on April 18, 2014, 05:02:31 PM
Can anybody give me some pointers about cylinder 2 not running (CB750F2),  have run out of ideas. Bike has been stood for a number of years. Have cleaned the carbs (although they were clean already), have replaced the float valves and set float heights (not sure if I have done this right as the manual does not even mention it), replaced the accelerator pump diaphragm, fitted new plugs etc. Engine fires up on the choke but cylinder 2 stays cold, does not cut in on higher throttle either. No.2 spark plug does not appear to be wet with petrol. Any ideas where I go from here, its bumming me out carbs have been off over and over. HELP!

Start with the simple stuff first, is the plug sparking, i.e.take the plug out, connect it to the HT lead , rest the plug against the cam cover (away from the plug hole) crank it over and look for a spark, cheers Mark.

First off I would test for compression then see a spark on no2 and then make sure there is fuel getting into that carb.If all that is right blocked jets as my yam XJR1300 DID EXACTLY THAT.
Result shitty gas cleaned jets and all OK.What you describe really sounds like lack of gas dry plug. If it was spark the plug would be wet and if there is no compression it wont suck any gas in and be a dry plug again.
Cheers

Thanks guys. Compression is okay, and got a good spark. Have completely stripped the carbs, cleaned as best I can with copper wire/carb cleaner/compressed air. Have now sent them off to be ultrasonic cleaned. All I have to do now is figure out how the hell to put them back together again. Watch this space for a call for help sometime soon. Thanks again.
