Cheers Bryan, two of the pistons are 50.5 and the other two are 51 dead! Yea a real botch up, was thinking the big bore kit might be the best and most economical way to go? I do want to keep the bike as original as possible.

I measured the bores and it looks like cylinder  1 = 50.95, C2 = 51.47, C3 = 51.00 and C4 = 51.50. Is it me or does this seem strange? I am not sure what to do with this, Looks like someone has put another liner in as there are some marks at the base of it. Any advice would be gratefully received, would it be best to get the barrel into a machine shop and everything set up evenly?
Any thoughts on the 466cc big bore kit?

CB350/400 / Addressing the smoking

Hi there, have not been near the 400f for months, back now to solve the smoking issue. Removed head and barrels to find a damaged scraper ring on cylinder number 1, looks like it was damaged on installation. There was also a missing circlip on the gudgeon pin!, amazingly the bore is ok but I intend to have them all honed and new rings fitted. I have a couple of questions for you experienced guys.
How can I tell if it has been rebored previously? I was thinking there would be a stamp on the piston, but can't see anything.
The other thing is I can only find 11 head washers and I suspect one of them has fallen down the cam chain channel, if this is the case could I retrieve it through the sump?
The internals of the engine do look in really great shape, virtually no wear on the cam and it also looks like new pistons. Any other advice on what I should do at this stage would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Hey Chris I am sure I will find something to spend it on as the engine is about to come out!

Hi Chris, yes it would be interesting to hear how others have gotten on with these systems, mine arrived today (stainless version), probably wont be fitting them for a while as I debate with myself about stripping the engine. I have taken the micron off and notice it does not use exhaust collars, so will need to get a set of those (suggestions welcome!) I attach a pic of the Micron before it was removed.

Strange why that pipe should do that Chris, I was trying to work out why, but the only thing I can think of is that the pipe is shorter at the exhaust port. Are these the Motad stainless pipes?

Thanks Chris, that's the kind of info I was hoping for. Looking at the different photos of these systems they do look quite good and certainly better than the one I have currently on the bike, the Micron is OK but does not reflect the rest of the bike in terms of condition. I paid just over £300 for the whole system and feel that is reasonable given it will improve the looks and condition of the bike overall. I am prepared to work with the new exhaust to get it looking as well as I can, will keep you posted!

Does anyone have this system fitted to their bike?

Hi Guys, I just bought a new motad full exhaust (copy of the Honda system). My bike has a period Micron exhaust, which looks OK apart from some inner swollen rings on the can. I just wanted to ask if the Motad system works well and looks right on the 400f? Also I believe it is the same system sold by DSS?   I should add I don't have the exhaust in my hands yet!

Thanks Chris, yes I mean the lever itself. My 400 came with a Kickstart lever in the box of bits, but I think it is off a CB550 so I am looking to get one. Prices seem high for the 400 but the 250/360 ones are pretty reasonable, suppose that is no use if it does not fit! Any advice on where to look for one would be appreciated.

I know this is an old post, but can anyone confirm if the Honda 250/360 G5 kick starts are interchangeable?
