When I removed the camchain tensioner bolt a nice length of thread came with it. I know I have read on here the pros and cons of helicoils and timeserts but I can't find the thread that explains which is better for open and blind holes. Can anyone help? The bolt that sits above the tensioner rod looks home made. Can anyone advise on what the bolt should be?

I had a stripped cam chain tension thread on my 400/4 and the previous owner had badly bodged a repair by going the next thread size up and using a normal bolt that resulted in oil leaks as no o rings had been used.
I was faced with either welding up the hole, drilling and tapping back to normal or using one of these kits from ebay;

The kit works, not original but I'm not bothered, I want to ride it not show it and only a purist would know!
The top bolt is home made, CSML sell new ones, they are not cheap, don't be tempted to put a normal bolt in either. There's a previous thread on here about this blind bolt and why its so expensive!

I have a kit for that guy and work perfect and him can make a "custom bolt/nut" with the correct measure that you need,

Thanks all. I am like you Laverda, I want to ride it so will take a look at your link. I have found a thread on the 'blanking bolt' (no.11). Looks from the thread that it turns out to be a blanking bolt so will look at other options rather than €35 + p&p!!!
