It wasn’t my first choice but a puncture to my Triumph meant I rode just shy of 200 miles on the K7 today, of which 140 miles were with Mrs C as a pillion and she didn’t miss a beat (the bike, not my wife!)

It also drew plenty of attention from gentlemen of a certain age on our stops. I didn’t get any pictures unfortunately but this was just before I put her back in the garage after the days efforts. I love this bike.

I’ve manage to get the old shocks off, it was just a case of more muscle.

Could anyone offer a bit of advice with the next step?

The new shocks are slimmer at the top than the originals and come supplied with three washers, these take up the difference to pack out to the end of the mounting post and allow the shocks to be fitted nice and snug, firstly is this ok and secondly, where would you fit the washers?

On the inside of the shock, on the outside of the shock, a mix of both?

Hope I’m making sense. I’m over thinking this now!

Here’s a couple of pictures to show the difference between the new and the old.

The rubber on the new shocks actually look ok to me, the stud it fits on goes much bigger after the thread part so it could well fit when the old shock is removed.

Aaaaahhhh, that would make sense. The thread is 10mm and the new shock rubber is around a 15mm opening.

I will have a go at getting them off and the new ones on over the weekend now I feel a bit more confident.

As Ted mentions in his post you are likely to encounter clearance issues by having the tang of the stand on the other side, a lot of expense to go to for something that will require very careful measuring to set up correctly and could be an issue for a potential buyer if you decide to sell the bike in the future.

Have you thought about a moveable stand, the type where the centre stand fits into a plate with four small wheels to enable the bike to be easily moved around (even full 360 deg) similar to this one from Demon Tweeks?

I had looked at something like that as an easier solution but my garage floor is pretty ropey, and had to lay some flooring to help, it’s the raised dot / studded type. I have read some reviews saying they need a nice surface to work well. On reflection, I would have been better going for a smooth tile.

I think I will admit that it’s all a bit of a non starter and stick with the motorcycle shuffle system.

Ok, this is possibly going to be the dumbest questions that has been asked here and I have held off asking it whilst I tried to find out the answer but…

Can you get right sided centre stands?

Every bike that I have ever owned with one has operated from the left side but due to my current driveway and garage configuration I really could do with a centre stand that operates from the right side on my K7. I have to fit the bikes in, in a certain way to make the most of the limited space, the driveway has a decent incline, so the bike has to be backed in.

Does such a thing exist or would it be possible for someone with the necessary know how to modify an existing centre stand? If I could find a solution to this it would make my bike storage solution a lot easier and would involve less moving one to get to another.

There is a relief valve fitted to the oil pump and another fitted to the oil filter bolt, the filter bolt one is one I've recently found to be sticking, I tested 5 bolts and only one worked as it should, one was jammed and the other 3 were sticking. This relief valve is just a small cup with a spring which forces it up inside the bolt, the spring is held in place by a small roll pin. To test the relief valve get a small piece of right angled metal and slide it into one of the holes right under the nut end of the bolt, you can see the relief valve up overing up the next layer of holes, press down on the cup and the holes should become exposed, it should then move back into place when you release the pressure on it. The idea is that if the oil filter blocks or collapses (which one of mine has in the past) the pressure of the oil will force the cup down, oil will now flow through the top holes and exit the next holes down, these holes will be inside the filter when it's in place. So it bypasses the filter and allows oil to go into the engine but of course it's now unfiltered oil so it's not a good idea to leave it like that.
