Title: Engine swapping.
Post by: florence on November 18, 2010, 01:41:23 PM
Does anyone know if the cb450/cb500t engine will fit into Cb350 K4 frame?  The bottom half crankcases look to same.  I have been looking on the internet to try to find another person mad enough to try but so far no luck.

I think its too tall, but have never tried it. Any particular reason apart from a surfit of odd bits?

I have a 1972 cb350; it's a great runner but I find it a bit under-powered.  I was just thinking of a fun project to make something with a bit more go but still very cheap.  I guess there may be insurance problems....?

There's a lot of that type of engine now raced in classic era stuff so some info should be available about compatability from that field i guess.

Maybe even a cam and carbs upgrade to make it rev a bit possibly? any 360T stuff to get closer to 500 power, don't think it was that quick antway.

Thanks, but it already revs like mad and for it's size it is quite powerful.  The main problem is that it is just a small bike and I tend to thrash it a bit too hard.  When it was my main bike I used to wreck the big ends by riding it flat out all the time.  They are a lovely bike to ride on country lanes, I think I just wish they had made a 500+ version of it because then it would be my perfect bike.

I think I have now decided to get the MOT up to date, ride it for a bit and then if I still find it too small, put it up for sale and see what it fetches and put the funds into my T100 fund, unless a cheap 500t engine turns up, then....out with the hacksaw and welder....
